Addicyn Kessinger Addicyn Kessinger 6'0" | SF Akron | 2024 State CO – Akron – 13.6 PPG
What a beast mode freshman season for this six-footer. Kessinger didn’t mess around, scoring 191 points on just 142 shots (1.3 PPS) and muscling out 11.9 boards a game. I get that it’s easier to score in 2A than 5A but rebounding is agnostic to class. Addi grabbed 17 of them with 4 steals and 18 points against Hi-Plains. She even stepped out and hit five threes this year. Kessinger is obviously a big reason the Rams put together their best season in four years.
Abbie Nickell – Peyton – 11.3 PPG
Like Kessinger, Nickell also led her team in scoring and rebounding (6.7 RPG). One of the best shooters on this list, she hit 31 of 101 threes and found the net on 82% of her free throws. Nickell can drop dimes, too, with four or more assists on two occasions. She’s in for a big test next year as every opponent’s number one target. Peyton’s next four scorers have now graduated. I also saw Abbie’s name on an all-conference tweet about volleyball. Kid’s clearly an athlete.
Trinitee Holmes Trinitee Holmes 5'11" | SG Burlington | 2024 State CO – Burlington – 11.1 PPG
This active, athletic, 5’11” shooter is in for a big career at Burlington. At 11-5, the Cougars had their best season in about eight years and Holmes will soon be joined by future 2025 standout, Kiyarra Williams, adding further upside for Burlington. Holmes took advantage of the fast-paced Cougars style this year by running the floor and turning her defense into offense.
Jaycee Windorski – Lake County – 9.7 PPG
I had to dig deep for information on Jaycee, or actually climb high, but I know this: She’s 6’1″. She’s a volleyball, basketball, and track athlete. She commands the 10,000 foot basketball scene up in Leadville. Windorski is one to watch because, just like the Peyton Panthers, Lake County put a cap and gown on the majority of their team so let’s see if these freshman standouts can carry a bigger load.
Ryann Mergelman – Rangely – 9.4 PPG
I love when a freshman has her first breakout performance and fully arrives on the varsity scene. Rangely was down 10 against Vail Christian heading into the 4th quarter. Mergelman put it in high gear and helped the Panthers get to overtime and win. She finished the game with 23 points and 7 steals, solidifying her name on this list as a 5’8″ prospect to watch.
Meloni Miller – Plateau Valley – 9.2 PPG
Here’s a freshman whose numbers exude some poise and disciplined shot selection. Miller scored 110 points on 101 shots and nailed 1/3 of her threes (18-54). At 5’8″ and logging a game with 8 steals, Miller can help the young Cowboys climb the ranks in the Western Slope this year.
Izzy Vigil – Addenbrooke Classical Academy – 8.5 PPG
Vigil had a consistent freshman campaign, hitting 70% at the line and leading her team in scoring. The Mustangs have worked their way towards the top of the league and will be returning most of their point production.
Trinity Martin – Hoehne – 8.5 PPG
Road tripping to Santa Fe? Hang a left on your way to catch the Hoehne Farmers’ 6’0″ scoring leader named Trinity Martin. The Farmers’ biggest win came over Fowler and Martin was tops on the team in points, rebounds, and steals. This team has a young group and are sure to build on an 8-7 season.
