Mathis came right in making plays as a freshman for her high school team, so it’s no surprise that she continues to be a play maker. She’s aggressive on defense going after steals that she immediately pushes up the court. She has a strong arm that can get passes right up to her teammates already cutting to the basket on the other end of the court. She scores herself driving the ball against contact or showing off her shot taking advantage of players who think they can give her some space.
Olivia Boyce | Carmel Christian
Boyce (pictured above) had some scoring streaks this summer showing off her ability to perform at all three levels. She can certainly shoot well from deep, but she does not shy away from driving all the way to the hoop. Her ball handling is certain to make plays finding her open teammates and reading the floor well to know how to get something going for her team. She uses various fakes and throws off defenders easily with the direction she looks before blowing by them.
Julia Chapman | Brevard
Chapman’s ball handling was certainly on display making plays for her team whether she was using fakes to get around her opponents or driving the ball to pull defenders toward her. She shoots well from behind the arc, too, and she knows how to set up her teammates for their own shots. She’s aggressive following shots to grab rebounds, too
Betsey Burnett Betsey Burnett 5'8" | CG South Meck | 2023 State NC | Garinger
Burnett has shown that she can do a little bit of everything over the past year. She constantly makes opponents pay when they do not guard her close enough as she can shoot well from all over the court, especially from downtown. She has a finesse with the ball that allows her to move easily past her opponents. Her speed is on display on defense jumping into passing lanes turning steals into points for her team.
Macy Wike Macy Wike 5'9" | SG Smoky Mountain | 2023 NC | Smoky Mountain
Wike is a versatile player who can contribute on all areas of the court. She doesn’t shy away from posting up underneath the basket and using her strength to battle for rebounds. That lack of fear for contact is apparent when she is driving to the hoop, and she can certainly make plays for her opponents finding them ready to show off their own shots. If she isn’t grabbing the steal herself and pushing it up the court, she makes sure she is available for her teammates for a pass or to grab the offensive rebound in order to score.
