Florida's Week 1 Team Rankings

1. Lake Highland Prep (1-0) The Highlanders only lost one key player last year from a 1-loss, top-ten nationally ranked team. This Week: 11/22 vs. Hoover (AL), 11/23 vs. North Raleigh Christian Academy (NC), 11/26 vs. Miami Country Day, 11/27 vs. Miami HS 2. Montverde Academy (5-0) MVA is loaded! Some new pieces and some returning pieces to this tough squad who will be tested this year. They’ll look to keep it rolling at the Insider Exposure Thanksgiving Classic in Jacksonville and Hoopfest in Dallas. This Week: 11/22 vs. The Bolles School, 11/23 vs. Blanche Ely, 11/26 vs. Duncanville (TX), 11/27 vs. DeSoto (TX) 3. Blanche Ely (1-0) The Tigers made light work of their only game so far this year with a 80-23 win over Doral Academy. St. Thomas Aquinas (1-0) STA is coming off an impressive State Championship run, and they are talented and deep enough to repeat in 6A. It looks like they will have a relatively quiet week until their matchup with Blanche Ely next week. This Week: No games 5. DME Sports Academy (5-0) DME is another team off to a hot start, and they will need to stay hot with the slate of games they have this week. They notched a couple impressive wins with a 5-point W over Central Pointe and 9-point W over Legacy Early College out of Greenville, SC to give them their only loss this year. Look for [player_tooltip player_id="91653" first="Chloe" last="Kitts"] to thrive with the huge additions of [player_tooltip player_id="91557" first="Sydney" last="Shaw"] and [player_tooltip player_id="91577" first="Amiya" last="Evans"] to the starting lineup. This team is deep outside of their big 3, too. A couple of tough matchups this week at the IE Thanksgiving Classic before they eat turkey and dine with LHP next Tuesday. This Week: 11/23 vs. Bartlett (TN), 11/24 vs. Winston-Salem Christian (NC) 6. Central Pointe Academy (4-2) A 2-loss team ranked in the top 10 after only one week* of play? I hear you, but they have been playing since the beginning of the month. And their two losses are to #2 and #5 on this list. CPCA burst onto the scene last year, and it looks like they will be staying led by the likes of: Harsimran Kaur, Silkiari Vasquez, [player_tooltip player_id="219996" first="Daniela" last="Gonzalez"], Betzalys Gelgado, and [player_tooltip player_id="219994" first="Naylee" last="Cortes"]. They’ll look to get back in the win column after those two straight losses. This Week: 11/24 vs. Bishop Kenny 7. American Heritage (Plantation) (2-0) AH is 2-0 with a couple easy wins including an impressive rout of Miami Christian. They’ll take on two of the better teams in Central FL this week behind a new-look squad led by [player_tooltip player_id="91566" first="Joey" last="Delancy"], [player_tooltip player_id="91565" first="Emani" last="Theodule"], and [player_tooltip player_id="118146" first="Ta’Niya" last="Latson"]. This Week: 11/26 vs. Colonial, 11/27 vs. Wekiva 8. Palm Bay (3-0) PB has coasted in their opening 3 victories. They’ll have at least 3 tough games this week with two of those coming at the IE Thanksgiving Classic. The Pirates will need to step up to keep getting wins. IMG Academy (1-0) IMG girls basketball is starting to catch up with the wealth of other top-notch programs IMG has. [player_tooltip player_id="243964" first="Catalina" last="Ion"] will now have [player_tooltip player_id="91558" first="Kailyn" last="Gilbert"] and [player_tooltip player_id="32623" first="Grace" last="VanSlooten"] to lean on. The national team has a convincing victory over a nice Charlotte team as their only game so far. This has to be the toughest schedule the Ascenders have played in recent years. This Week: 11/26 vs. Wolca (VA), 11/27 vs. Mater Lakes 10. Miami Country Day (1-1) MCDS suffered a somewhat surprising 1-point loss to Calvary Christian Academy out of Fort Lauderdale on Saturday. Look for [player_tooltip player_id="217667" first="Kayla" last="Nelms"] and [player_tooltip player_id="91642" first="Kristina" last="Godfrey"] to lead the way along with transfer [player_tooltip player_id="217665" first="Sofia" last="Mendez"], [player_tooltip player_id="219935" first="Aicha" last="Keita"], Bella Guevara, and [player_tooltip player_id="221703" first="Kaliyah" last="Morales"]. They’ll look to rebound this weekend against two of the best in the state.
