<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>DMV SUPER GAMES Bishop McNamara vs Sidwell Friends</strong></span>
What a way to open the season with two national top 5 teams going head to head on a neutral court. Bishop McNamara who ESPN has ranked #3 in the nation faced Sidwell Fiends who are ranked #5 in the same poll. Of note Prep Girls Hoops Maryland has the Quakers above the Mustangs at #3 and #4 respectively. Definitely, worth the price of admission and the quality live stream. The teams were in a back and forth battle with the outcome uncertain until late in the fourth quarter. Here are the game notes and top players of the day.
Game Notes: Quarter 1
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="25461" first="Kiki" last="Rice"]</strong> the top ranked player in the DMV came out with the first bucket of the day and super sophomore <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="142824" first="Jadyn" last="Donovan"]</strong> started of the games scoring and a 5-0 lead for the Quakers. McNamara came back a <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="142823" first="Sahnya" last="Jah"]</strong>, who scored the Mustangs first seven points knocked down a corner three. Sidwell stayed hot and on top after 3-pointers by <strong>Khai Miller</strong> and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="238825" first="Leah" last="Harmon"]</strong> helped stretch the lead to 17-9 after the first quarter.
Game Notes: Quarter 2
The second quarter started off with <strong>Quadence Samuels</strong> breaking away from the pack for back-to-back buckets for the Mustangs. Sidwell had Donovan controlling the floor on the defensive end with a game high 3 blocked shots before the half. McNamara went to the bench for help bringing in a pair of freshmen in <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="239477" first="Princess" last="Moody"]</strong> and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="239435" first="Vanessa" last="Harris"]</strong>. Moody allowed Bmac to play at a faster pace and was very disruptive on the defensive end, while Harris dropped a couple of buckets to include a lane slicing drive to end the quarter. Sidwell Friends went into the half with a 25-23 lead.
Game Notes: Quarter 3
Neither team shot well from the three in the first half so it was interesting to see what adjustments would be made at the half. The Mustangs came out in the third looking to run and got their first lead of the day off of a three-point play by senior <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="137208" first="Gia" last="Cooke"]</strong> to go up 28-25 with 6:45 to play in the quarter. McNamara kept their foot on the gas with Jah, Cooke and Samuels all scoring in rotation. Freshman <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="239453" first="Zhen" last="Craft"]</strong> hit a three pointer to give the Mustangs their biggest lead at 39-27 with two minutes to play in the quarter. A three pointer by Miller to end the quarter gave the Quakers some needed momentum to cut the score to 39-32 headed into the final period.
Game Notes: Quarter 4
In the fourth tragedy struck the Mustangs as Jah when down with an injury and had to be helped off the court and Cooke sitting out after picking up her 4th foul. Sophomore <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="238687" first="Kendall" last="Dudley"]</strong> drove for a basket and Rice had back-to-back steals scoring to tie the game at 39 with 4:48 to play. Jah returned to the game, but the Quakers had tasted blood and wanted more. Donovan and Rice took over and another three by Miller broke the Stangs as Sidwell had a 33 -10 run to finish the game with a 62-49 victory.
