These players were standouts in every way and I am very excited to talk about them. Not only that, they are members of the Prep Girls Hoops Circuit and the best thing about that is that I get to see them even more as the Dynasty Region progresses through the spring! Here are the All-Tourney Honorable Mentions from the PGH Dynasty Region KickOff last weekend at Drive Nation in Dallas.
Jazlyn Braithwaite Jazlyn Braithwaite 5'6" Coronado Scool | 2023 TX | 5-6 PG | West Texas Shockers / Lubbock Coronado | 2023 | @JazlynBraithwa1
Another member of the five-player West Texas squad from this weekend, Jazlyn was the first player that stood out to the point that I had to ask her coach for her information. She has very long arms that she uses to rack up the steals and blocks on the defensive side. On the offensive side, she showed the ability to finish with either hand in transition and a tremendous ability to use her body to shield defenders while driving. She can hit from deep when called upon and had some massive point totals over the course of the weekend.
Allison Heathcock Allison Heathcock 6'0" | SG Edmond North | 2024 State OK | 5-11 CG | Team Buddy Buckets / Edmond North | 2024 | @Aheathcock2024
Team Buddy Buckets is another of the young teams in the 17U group and they more than held their own as they went 3-1 on the weekend. Allison was a big part of their success and was “in her bag” all weekend, so to speak. She is an incredibly long guard who moves very well and gets up and down the floor quickly. She can score it from just about anywhere and is not selfish at all. She shows a high basketball IQ and makes the right pass at the right time. Heathcock led her team in scoring on the weekend and did it in a variety of ways. She worked hard for boards and putbacks, stroked it from outside, and showed a nice “stop-and-pop” from midrange. One of the top-ranked players in the class of 2024 and a state champion, you’re not going to want to miss her on the PGH Circuit!
Alexis Martin Alexis Martin 5'9" | CG Oologah | 2023 State OK | 5-9 PG | Team Griffin Select / Oologah-Talala | 2023 | @AlexissMartin25
Martin is a big, tough guard who would just as soon take you one and one and body you to the rim as she would step out and hit a three. A very physical player, Alexis relishes the chance to get down and dirty and do the little things it takes to win a basketball game. She defends and dives for loose balls. She gets a body on someone for every rebound. She gets out quickly in transition and she makes her free throws. There isn’t much you could ask of a player that she doesn’t do. Alexis is a big reason that Team Griffin Select and head coach Chuck Cobbins left Dallas undefeated this past weekend. She is a baller and you owe it to yourself to give her a look, coaches!
Kileigh Mixon Kileigh Mixon 5'9" | SF Stroud | 2023 State OK | 5-10 CG | Team Griffin Select / Stroud | 2023 | @kileigh_mixon
Speaking of the undefeated Team Griffin Select, here is another member of that team that ended the weekend up 47 points in point differential. Kileigh is extremely long and bouncy and when she gets it going from behind the arc, her range is almost limitless. She, much like Martin, is a very tough player who relishes the contact that comes with finishing in the paint. She is not afraid to take the knocks that come with driving to the basket and more often than not she completes the “and one,” as well. Mixon uses her athleticism to redirect a lot of shots and passes by exploding into places that her opponent didn’t think she could get to. A huge part of what Team Griffin Select does, Kileigh Mixon Kileigh Mixon 5'9" | SF Stroud | 2023 State OK is not one to be missed!
Shameir Quimby | 5-6 CG | Texas Platinum / Canton | 2023 | @meir_quimby
Last season, Platinum was one of the best squads on the circuit. Well-coached, athletic, and precise in their style of play. This season they are still all of that but have added an absolutely dynamic playmaker. Shameir doesn’t necessarily deviate from the offensive game plan, but when things fall apart, it is definitely nice to have someone that can create. She can drive to the basket and get buckets, but better than that is Quimby’s ability to see passing lanes before they open up and make the right pass at the right time. She is a fiery player whose teammates rally around her. She can get the team going with one very good possession of defensive basketball and she knows just when to turn it on. Quimby is very fun to watch.
Amaya Williams | 5-7 G | El Paso Lady Hurricanes / Eastwood | 2024 | @_amayyaaa_
Everything for the Hurricanes starts and ends with defense, as it should. Amaya is no exception. She has the ability to absolutely lock down her opponent and her on-ball defense was almost unmatched this weekend. She clearly prides herself on that fact. No slouch in the scoring department, Williams can also create her own shot with good footwork and excellent handles. She is able to get separation and use supreme athleticism to rise up and get the shot up almost uncontested when only seconds prior she had been guarded very closely. I can’t wait to see more of the El Paso squad and all of the tremendous athletes that they have.
