The event featured Adidas programs throughout the United States being held at the Upward Star Center. The Carolina Hawks were playing over in the Adidas Gold Division Bracket. The Gold Bracket played at High Point Academy, Landrum HS and Chapman HS throughout the weekend.
Local team Carolina Hawks-Parks 17U finished the weekend at (3-1) under Head Coach Milton Parks. Kamari Thompson Kamari Thompson 6'0" | PF Southside | 2023 State SC was great in the opener vs Team Saints (NH) with 11 points and 21 rebounds yes, that’s correct. Guard Anaya Muhammad Anaya Muhammad 5'6" | PG Woodmont | 2023 State SC added 14 points, Lauren Wearbon Lauren Wearbon 5'6" | CG Southside | 2023 State SC scored 13 points while Kamya Hatten Kamya Hatten 6'0" | SF Southside | 2023 State SC finished with 12 points and 8 rebounds.
Thompson does such a great job of being active on both ends of the flooring claiming rebounds and keeping the ball up high. Kamari plays the game with a high motor and really does a good job of manufacturing points down in the paint. She NEVER takes a play-off while on the floor and really does log a lot of minutes. Kamari has great length to be disruptive and cause havoc around the passing lanes. She has really had a solid Grassroots season to date with her play the past few months.
Muhammad came out scoring from mid-range with nice pull-up jumpers in transition. Anaya really uses ball-screens well to get off her shot at times. She feels most comfortable at times playing off the ball. Anaya does a good shot of receiving the ball and being shot ready.
Wearbon was able to score the ball from all 3 levels on the floor. Lauren dropped some three pointers when she wasn’t dropping floaters in the lane. She really excels in the transition game and getting out in the open court.
Hatten is a bit of a mismatch at times on the floor with her ability to get by bigger defenders or bully smaller defenders. Kamya seems most effective staying close to the cup and basket and manufacturing points down low. She does a great job of playing the game physical and playing on contact.
Alexandria Bennon Alexandria Bennon 5'7" | PG Christ Church | 2024 State SC informed Prep Girls Hoops that she will be attending Christ Church next season. Bennon a guard was able to drop some nice bounce passes today to teammates today leading to assists. Alexandria connected on some baseline jumpers in the win over Team Saints (NH).
This Carolina Hawks 17U Parks program has had a strong spring grassroots season. College programs should be paying attention to this program with plenty of recruitable players for next year. #RecruitThePalmettoState
