Continue ReadingMorgan Miller Morgan Miller 5’9″ | PG Iowa City Regina | 2025 State IA returns to The Regina Regals for her sophomore year looking to take her team back to state once again. Coming off an impressive freshman year averaging 10 PPG, 3.4 RPG, and 4.1 APG Miller seems to just have an act for finding her teammates wherever they are on the floor. She has a solid head on her shoulders with great passing ability and a great ability to know where her teammates are at on the floor, no matter the situation. Making great choices, communicating well and being able to knock down a shot from anywhere when she receives the ball in return. As the years go on and she becomes older it will become obvious that Morgan is the PG a lot of colleges will have interest in as their future leader. It will be intriguing to see what Morgan can do with the Regals now that they will have to replace their star big in Lily Simpson from the 21′-22′ season but I cannot wait to see.
Kacy Miller
Kacy Miller
Kacy Miller is maybe the best shooter of the 2A class that people might not have heard of. Averaging 16.1 PPG on 48% shooting, 39.5% from three, and 2.3 APG, she scored 371 points last season as a sophomore ranking her in the top 20 of all of 2A, along with being top 10 in shooting percentage from the 3 point line. Going 51 of 129 and being a dynamic play maker on top of that. With a 17-6 overall record in the 21′-22′ season The West Monona Spartans look to make a big run this upcoming season returning 4 of 5 starters and their 6th/7th girl off their bench, including Jalyn Struble who ranked #2 in 2A last year in assists. When you add the combination of a shooter like Kacy with a PG like Struble, it will be very difficult for teams to defend the perimeter of the Spartans this upcoming season.
Makena Galetich
Makena Galetich
Galetich is the definition of a “stat stuffer” when we are talking about the 2A varsity level. Doing everything she did last year and looking to improve on averaging 15 PPG, 5.3 RPG, 3.3 APG, and 80% from the line, Makena looks to build on a solid 21′-22′ season for The South Hamilton Hawks. Even with doing a little bit of everything for her team and having 3 of 5 starters returning for this upcoming season it will be no small feat though. Playing in a conference that had two other teams last year make state runs at higher levels of varsity basketball it comes to no surprise that it will be difficult to win conference but is definitely do-able for the Hawks.
Grace Gaarde Grace Gaarde 5’3″ | PG Iowa City Regina | 2023 State IA comes back for her senior season looking to take The Regina Regals back to state along side of Morgan Miller Morgan Miller 5’9″ | PG Iowa City Regina | 2025 State IA . Acting as a “2 headed” attack last season with Grace and Morgan switching off at the 1 & 2 guard it will be the same for this upcoming season. Averaging 11.1 PPG on 40.6% shooting, and 5.4 APG, ranking her 3rd in 2A, it will be hard for teams to stop the back court of the Regals. On top of that Gaarde recorded 77 steals in the 21′-22′ season, ranking her in the top 40 in that category as well. Watching her last year it is easy to say that this Regina team will go wherever Grace takes them, being a vocal leader on and off the floor. Something that stood out to myself last year was how she is always hyping up her teammates with positivity the entire game. When you add these factors of the Regals back court along with returning Alli Clark, who shot 52% last year, and a very knowledgeable coach in Mary Rogers, Regina should have another very successful year after finishing 20-5 last year.
