Continuing on about the Bigs that attended the Prep Girls Hoops Kentucky Top 250 Expo I move forward with several players I have seen play a little more often dating back to last season and some during the past summer. So the coverage might expand a bit, but I will try to keep it focused on the 250.
Again, I apologize for the delays in coverage but I have just been swamped and exhausted. There are still at least two articles coming on Forwards before I even get into the Guards. So hang in there. As long as I don’t die first I will eventually get around to covering your position. I would say at least 24 more players will receive some coverage but that is without looking at the roster. I will go as deep as possible writing about the players at the 250.
Meade was dominant in the Post on the Offensive end at this event. She seemed to make everything she put up after getting one little tip about why she had been struggling previously. Proving she is coachable. She already had a solid over the shoulder move and has added some additional flexibility to her game to help her to repostion herself off the bounce.
Meade has D1 size and with the work she has put in I wouldn’t be surprised to see her getting the oppotunity to play for a big name school. The results she has had on changing her body have been extremely noticiable, proving that the rumor I heard about her being in the gym every AM working out were not rumors. She is much leaner and ready for a big year.
Last year, I might have classified her as more of a project for a college to take on. But she is gooing to be more developed by the time she arrives on Campus now. Making her more of a sure thing contributor with a proven track record at putting in the work to get better.
I wouldn’t rule her out for some of the smaller school though. I don’t know what your in would be but maybe the right academic program could steal her away from the big schools and be a key piece for a championship run.
Lathery has really made strides over the summer since I last saw her play early last season. She is putting her size to good use on both ends of the floor and running the floor well. Last season she appeared to be less mobile and i have to credit level of fitness. She seems more confident out there and I think that will only continue to grow throughout this season.
She was a force on the boards, made a nice 17 footer from the left wing, and blocked a layupin transition. She also displayed a nice looking 8 footer from just outside the lane in the mid-post area. She is much more physical that she had been previously and has done some work improving her hands. This is a player that is breaking out right now. I don’t know if she will fully arrive this season but she is on route for whoever is lucky enough to sign her to play on the next level.
Kincaid was already a good rim protector and rim runner last year. Now she is putting the ball on the floor from the perimeter and driving into the lane. She is much more fluid with the ball and looked good knocking down a 12 foot corner jumpshot. This is no longer a player limted to an interior attack making her all the more difficult to defend and helping to increase interior spacing on her school team that already has a dominant interior scorer. With both of these players now being able to play Inside and Outside there will be more room for both of them to operate.
Something about her frame makes me believe Kincaid could still be growing. Maybe it is just muscle that is coming as she continues to lift and matures. But I just feel like she might have a little more height added before she gets to College. Her expanded skill set is going to open more doors for her too even if she doesn’t gain any size. She was just a little small to play D1 ball as an Interior player only. With the skills she is harder to place but I would think her floor is an NAIA type of school, and that is full scholarship basketball. rn
Simpson was impressive, especially rebounding the ball and starting the break. She made the up the street pass very accurately to teammates that were running the floor. She also showed good handles for a player with her size, I am glad I just checked her stats because I found out she is her school teams leading returning scorer and rebounded and thet she is a Sophomore. I has assumed she was a Senior due to the maturity in her game.
This year will be the year she is discovered by tone of coaches that did not previously know about her. So if you were one of the coaches in on her early make sure you show her some love early. She is another player it is hard to place for the next levek, Somebody will take her but I am not sure what level or position. The higher levels will be looking t her to be a 3, the lower levels as a 5 and the levels in between will see a 4. But one way or another I think tons of coaches are going to see her as someone that could play for their team.
Right now I like Soutar as a Center, but I can see her working on things that might make her more of a 4 before she is done with high school basketball. She is another player that is putting in the work on her body. I can see her muscles starting to pop up on her lithe frame and I think her cardiovascular conditioning has vastyly improved. She will need it to stay on the floor at her school where they really push the tempo with what seems like a never-ending supply of quick guards ballhawking.
She made one of the best Blocks of the day in a shortend game I was watching. She was playing in an unusual environment for her by having planty of extra size on the court for the 250. I think it made it hard to find her spot on the floor or to have enough space to really shine and someone who is mainly a mid-post player. She may have stood out more without as much size on the team. But with it being more or less pick-up games with no plays to decide who goes where they were all having to feel their way through an awkward situation. They handled it well.
