Players from all over the state played three games and had the chance to shine in front of college coaches, myself, and Scott Hankamp. I walked away with a list of kids that I can’t wait to follow this year. The competition was intense, yet I saw a lot of kids just enjoying the game. Below are kids that played super well and left it all on the court.
Highlights
I love kids that impact the game without the ball. Izzy had four points and four rebounds in her first shift and repeated the performance in her second shift. She continually made winning plays on both sides of the ball. She is a kid that you love to have on your team.
Christina had one of my favorite shots today: a running hook shot straight out of the early 80s. She is a high energy player that rebounds like crazy and shuts down passing lanes with good helpside defense. She has a great head fake and finishes well.
A feisty, little two way player that you’ll love. She played like a pass first point guard but had some solid drives. Her pocket passing a work of art. She seemed to take great joy in locking down on other players.
Highlights
Tessa is another little guard that plays both ways. She has solid three point range and has the ability to put the ball on the deck with effectiveness. She finds teammates at all levels for scoring opportunities. She runs a smooth offense and finds hers as appropriate.
The Grass Lake product is a shifty player that knows how to draw fouls. She is a solid off and on ball performer that is a plus passer. On the defensive side, she seems to know where the ball is going to go. She definitely impacts the game.
This kid is a scorer. Jaeryn is a strong bodied guard that bullies her way to the paint. She has plus speed and is undeniable in transition. She rebounds with the bigs and showcased nice anticipation on shot blocking opportunities.
Nadiyah Walsh | Montrose Hill McCloy | 2024
Want to see some amazing passing? Nadiyah is the kid to watch. Passes come from crazy angles and find homes for easy set ups. I wrote “great pass” several times in my notes and had a “crazy good pass”. The 5’7 guard also rebounds like a big.
Dangerous three point shooter. Mia has volleyball line range and can hit deep shots off the dribble and in spot up situations. She played well on both sides of the ball.
Highlights
Very strong two way player. Sofie was a menace off the bounce and got to the rack through contact. She showcased a solid floater, but it is her finishing that is crazy. I literally have no idea how the shots went in, but she doesn’t miss at the rim- ever. She is a big time rebounder despite her size. Definitely a high energy kid.
Highlights
Sophie is a quiet assassin. You could almost miss her, but you really can’t since she just carved up the defense. She finishes through contact with ease, and she has a nice midrange game. She is a willing and able passer. She also proved to be a plus defender.
