If there is one thing anyone who follows the high school girls basketball scene across the state understands, it is one that is deep with talent – including across this year’s graduating class.
College coaches ought to have a number of these talents on their radars when assembling their 2023 recruiting class. Here are a number of post players that are poised to shine at the next level that have yet to be signed.
Unfortunately, Jambor is unavailable to play in her senior season for the 5A Stags due to injury, but when she is healthy, she is one of the state’s premier bigs. She played in 19 games last season for Berkeley and nearly averaged a double-double with 15.9 points and 9.7 rebounds per game. Prep Girls Hoops last got a glimpse of Jambor when she played at Francis Marion University’s team camp. As her statistics indicate, she is a gifted scorer in addition to a rebounder. Jambor has worn the Berkeley colors since she was an eighth grader and will surely be a worthwhile asset for whoever college team’s colors she will sport.
With so much of the attention on the Camden girls basketball program on Joyce Edwards Joyce Edwards 6’3″ | PF Camden | 2024 State SC , it can be easy to overlook this talented frontcourt force. Prep Girls Hoops noticed Harris this past spring and summer on the Prep Girls Hoops Circuit’s Triumph Region where she participated with Palmetto 76ers. Harris has offers from Claflin, Illinois-Springfield, Coker, Mars Hill, Benedict and a Division I offer from Southern University of New Orleans. She averaged a double-double last season of 10 points and 11.6 rebounds, playing an important role in the Bulldogs run to last season’s 3A state championship game.
Talent and versatility are two of the many attributes a college team will get with Thompson as part of its roster. She announced prior to the start of the season that she received an offer from in-state Coker University. Thompson takes on team captaincy duties for a Southside team that is among the elite 3A squads across the state. She has hit the ground running in her senior season as she has averaged 24.8 points, 10 rebounds and 3.7 steals in the six matchups the currently undefeated Tigers have played so far (as of this writing). Thompson’s Tigers advance to last season’s Upper State Final – and they have eyes on the big 3A prize in 2022-23.
Hatten’s noteworthy career has taken her to 4A Westside as well as with the Lions of Legacy Early College. Now, she is part of a 3A Southside bunch that is looking once again like one of the teams to beat regardless of class. Hatten stands at 5-foot-11 and can play as either a small forward or a power forward. She is already averaging 12.8 points, 6.5 rebounds, 4.2 steals and 3.3 assists per contest, giving coach Milton Parks’ Tigers assembling frontcourt depth. She played with FBC Carolina Elite Hawks 17U during her final travel campaign this past spring and summer.
One can count on Offing to bring it every game she plays for 5A Dutch Fork. She currently holds an offer from Brevard College in the western part of North Carolina. Prep Girls Hoops last saw Offing at the A1 Hoops Report-hosted She Got Next event last month at White Knoll HS in central Lexington County. Offing has displayed her superb scoring, rebounding and floor-running abilities at other events Prep Girls Hoops has attended – including the SCBCA Elite Camp at the North Charleston Athletics Center and over the summer at Dawn Staley’s team camp at the University of South Carolina.
One of the state’s 1A teams to beat in High Point Academy has once again looked like one of the state’s premier 1A teams in large part because of Martin’s great play. As of this writing, the veteran-laden Grizzlies are 6-2 and Martin is averaging 19.8 points and 18.3 rebounds in the eight games High Point Academy has played. She has shown plenty of statistical and overall improvement since she first played with the Grizzlies as a freshman. Martin is a dual-sport athlete whose athletic resume also includes volleyball in addition to basketball. She has played her AAU ball with FBC Carolina Hawks Elite and last year scored an offer from Claflin.
Johnson’s final travel season was spent with SC Future – which plenty a Westwood standout has been part of. Prior to the start of this season, Johnson landed an offer from Columbia College. She is a defensive anchor for the 4A Redhawks as two big reasons why she is so valuable to Westwood are seen in the steals she compiles and the rebounds she brings down. Johnson is already averaging nine points and 6.5 rebounds per game – and is a key reason why the Redhawks have started the season in impressive fashion with an 8-2 record. She has also participated in track and field events throughout her athletic career.
Brown plays in several varsity sports as she competes in softball in addition to her basketball accomplishments. She also plays in volleyball – at a school in Wando which is one of the state’s 5A powers. She spent her final season at the club level wearing the teal, black and white colors of TMP 17U. The 6-foot-2 frame she presents automatically make her a force to be reckoned with in the frontcourt. Brown can display how good she is with her hands and showcases her overall ability to make plenty of things happen in the painted area. The Warriors have started the 2022-23 season at 6-2.
In addition to having many of the talent-based gifts one has to succeed at the next level, Farmer also possesses a great deal of intangibles. She is a gifted floor runner and combines length with the fact that she stands at an even six feet. Her athletic attributes enable her to move from one area of the floor to another and it also comes in handy when looking to make plays in the low post. An area of her game where she particularly excels at is her rebounding and she can play with an aggressive streak at many occasions while on the court.
It was announced not too long ago that Goss had picked up an offer from Morris College – a Sumter-based HBCU. Goss stands at 5-foot-10 and does a great deal of work in the painted area. She is a gifted rebounder and a good number of those offensive boards can translate into two-point putbacks and second-chance point opportunities. Goss can primarily play in the paint with her back to the basket. She also can absorb her fair share of contact and take her chances at the free throw line. Her play has been integral in the Warriors jumping out so far to a 4-1 start in the early going this season.
