#1: Dowling Catholic VS Johnston
Dowling Catholic will travel to Johnston High School on Tuesday night after coming off of a huge win over Ankeny Centennial by 1 on lsat Thursday, on the road. Dowling Catholic, being led by star point guard Ava Zediker Ava Zediker 5'10" | PG Dowling Catholic | 2025 State IA , has some great pieces that have a chance to make some big noise this winter. They return a decent amount of players accompanied with an efficient system. On the other side of the floor, for the Dragons you have Iowa State women’s basketball commit Aili Tanke Aili Tanke 6'0" | SG Johnston | 2024 State IA and a top, nationally ranked player in freshman Jenica Lewis Jenica Lewis 5'10" | PG Johnston | 2026 State IA . This will be a huge test to see what Dowling can put together facing a Johnston team that may have the best roster throughout the state of Iowa.
Ava Zediker Ava Zediker 5’10” | PG Dowling Catholic | 2025 State IA did everything for her team in efforts of coming out on top in her teams contest against Ankeny Centennial last week, scoring 24 points on 6/13 shooting while going 9/9 from the free throw line and dishing out 6 assists. Dowling Catholic led start to finish in this one and at one point were up by double digits. Zediker is a top point guard in the state throughout any class with her ability to run the show, score, handle the ball under pressure, pass, and defend. During the summer she was extremely successful for her All Iowa Attack EYBL team competing against some of the top players in the nation and holding her own. If she can keep up her production and keep her teammates engaged, they will be a tough matchup once the playoff’s begin.
Jenica Lewis Jenica Lewis 5’10” | PG Johnston | 2026 State IA has not let down all the hype around her name coming into her freshman year for the Johnston Dragons. Being one of the top ranking players in the country overall and debatably the #1 overall point guard in the class of 2026 brings a lot of pressure to someone of such a young age but not Lewis. She is an overall stud with an extremely high ceiling as she grows up. She has started ever since the first game tipped off this season and is putting up some impressive numbers, averaging more the 10 points a game, 4 assists, and 3 steals for her Dragons squad. It’s going to be fun watching her grow up around this state and to see what she can become. Right now, the options are endless if she sticks to it and keeps working hard.
#2: Central Lyon VS MOC-Floyd Valley
Also appearing on Tuesday evening will be the match up of Central Lyon traveling to take on MOC-Floyd Valley high school in a contest between two teams that have already three wins each under their belt’s as the season tips off. Central Lyon being a perfect 3-0 so far and MOC-Floyd Valley being 3-1. I think this game is great because it has some interesting match up’s individually and should help us answer some questions that are had about each of these program’s moving forward. Central Lyon being led by University of South Dakota Women’s basketball commit Addison Klosterbuer Addison Klosterbuer 5'9" | SG Central Lyon | 2023 State IA , who is debatably the best three point shooter in the state and is averaging 24 PPG throughout her first three games this season. While on the other side you have a freshman who has really been making a big impact for Floyd Valley in Adyson Jeltema Adyson Jeltema 5'11" | SF MOC-Floyd Valley | 2026 IA . Both of these teams have identical numbers when it comes to points scored, points allowed, field goal percentage, average amount of rebounds, and average amount of turnovers, so this game should be a really good one with it coming down to the final minutes as long as each team can keep it somewhat close throughout the evening.
Addison Klosterbuer Addison Klosterbuer 5’9″ | SG Central Lyon | 2023 State IA started off this season as planned by being one of the best shooters and offensive players in the state. The combo point/shooting guard is a gamer with high motor and a lot of motivation when she steps onto the court. She has the ability to change the game quickly with her offensive talent and shooting skill. She can play defense on any guards her size while doing a good job of helping and getting through screens. I anticipate for Central Lyon to win this match up early on this season mainly because of their varsity experience and game time they have had compared to their competition. I also expect for Klosterbuer to have another big shooting game, lighting it up from all over the floor on their way to victory.
#3: Iowa City-West VS Iowa City-Liberty
I like this new-er “rivalry” matchup for these two high schools to finish off the week. As it may not be the traditional Iowa City schools in this mach up, it is sure to be a good one for all involved. Iowa City-West jumped their season to 2-0 with two solid victories to start their year under their senior leader in Meena Tate Meena Tate 5'11" | SG Iowa City West | 2023 State IA , a Dartmouth University Women’s basketball commit. While on the other side of this match up you have Iowa City-Liberty at the record of 2-2 to begin their season with a lot of young talent mixed with their senior captain in Jasmine Barney Jasmine Barney 5'7" | PG Cedar Falls | 2023 State IA . Barney has been a problem for her competition so far as she is averaging just under 17 PPG on 58% shooting from the field. It’ll be interesting to see if Tate and West High can keep their momentum going into this game and come out on top as this will just be a test to start their extremely challenging schedule this season.
Meena Tate Meena Tate 5’11” | SG Iowa City West | 2023 State IA has been doing all she can throughout the first two games of her senior year for Iowa City West high school. The college basketball commit is averaging 25 points a game on 42% shooting while also handing out 2 assists per game at the same time. This West team will go as far as Meena can take them as she is their unquestionable leader on the floor. Their offense runs through her while she tried to compete night in and night out. The strategy for other teams will be to take her out of the game and make the other players around her prove that they can compete at the same level without her. If they are able to do that and Tate keeps doing what she is doing, they are going to make a big run at some point this season and will shock a lot of people doing it.
