Katy Reyerson Katy Reyerson 6’2″ | PF West Marshall | 2023 State IA has been doing it all for West Marshall high school to start this year, which everyone was anticipating but at the rate she is going right now, she could end up having one of the best individual high school seasons we have seen in a long time. Reyerson, the UNI women’s basketball commit, started off her season by scoring a school record 43 points in their opener to tip off the year while leading her team to a win. Since this break out game, her offense has continued its success as she just put up a triple-double in her last contest with 12 points, 14 boards, and 11 assists. Not to include the 7 steals she swiped and 7 blocked she tallied up on the way to another win in that contest. With stat lines like this on a consistent basis, Reyerson could become a dark horse for Players Of The Year in the state of Iowa. UNI got a great pick up with this one, a diverse player that can create an instant impact on a college floor instantly.
Lindsey Davis Lindsey Davis 5’8″ | SG Nodaway Valley | 2024 State IA led Nodaway Valley to a win over Creston High School on Friday night to lead her team to an overall 2-1 record to start the 22′-23′ season with their only loss coming in the form of an away game against (3A) Solon High School. Davis put on a show in their bounce back victory, scoring a game high 31 points on 14/23 shooting, and dishing out 6 assists. As the season progresses onward and Davis finds her groove, I am sure that she will have other games just like this one where she is the best player on the floor by far and that alone will lead to some very high scoring totals for herself, along with wins for her team. It’ll be interesting to see where Davis goes in the end of her high school career. She is a guard who can do a lot of great things on the floor as well as will her team to victory while doing so. She has the ability to shoot and score from all three levels on the offensive side of floor and can defend the opposing teams best guard if needed. Nodaway Valley (2-1) will play Southwest Valley (0-2) on Tuesday for their next game. We will see what Davis can do to follow up her biggest scoring game of the season.
Highlights
Iowa City-City High has a new face of basketball as the program heads into the 22′-23′ season with the addition of Sophomore transfer August Palmer August Palmer 5’10” | PG Iowa City-City High | 2025 State IA and subtraction in the form of Kelsey Joens Kelsey Joens 5’10” | SG West Liberty | 2023 State IA transferring to West Liberty high school to play under her older sister. Palmer lead the City High Little Hawks to their first victory over Cedar Rapids-Jefferson the other night by scoring a game high 30 points on the way to their 12 points win. Palmer was a dominate force last season in a weaker 2A conference, so the question coming into this year was if she would be able to still dominate at the same pace as a season ago but in a bigger class, and the answer to this question is an outstanding, YES! She is a guard who plays with heart, grit, and determination, not to mention the offensive basketball skill she possesses to round her off as a complete basketball player. I fully expect by the end of this season for the interest in Palmer at the college level to sky rocket as she will show that it doesn’t matter who is in front of her, she is going to ball out.
Highlights
Kyla Mason
Kyla Mason
Kyla Mason had 18 points and 7 rebounds in Xavier high school’s close win vs Cedar Rapids-Kennedy the other night to start off their season at 3-0 and to remain as favorites in their class to win a state championship for a second year in a row. Mason is a forward with good versatility and quickness for her size. She is strong with a good base and awesome footwork around the hoop. She can finish with either hand and through contact on a consistent basis, while also being a senior captain for her Xavier Saint’s squad. I expect these type of performances on a weekly basis out of Mason after seeing her play this past summer for Team Iowa AAU where she dominated inside the paint against all competition. With the type of roster this Xavier team has along with a veteran coach and staff by its side, I can’t wait to see this team back at the state tournament where Mason will attempt to lead them to victory along with some other key leaders.
