There aren’t many better post players in the region. The Iowa State commit has gone toe-to-toe with some of the best post players in the midwest and has played well every time. Her presence in 1A makes life difficult for small schools across Iowa because there are no 5A schools that can handle Crooks when she gets two feet in the paint. She’s also more than solely a post-scorer. Crooks has an excellent feel for the game and can step outside and knock down jumpers, which makes her an even bigger headache to defend.
Kamryn Kurt Kamryn Kurt 5'6" | PG North Linn | 2024 State IA
The North Linn guard is the lifeblood of her team. Kurt leads the Lynx in scoring, assists, and steals. What makes her so good at the 1A level is her consistency. With the responsibility to score the ball and keep North Linn atop the Tri-Rivers conference, Kurt always responds. When you have to do a lot to help your team win games and do it consistently is impressive at any level of high school basketball, especially when teams prepare for you. Kurt is also boasting 55/39/71 shooting thus far in the season.
Brecklyn Schilling
The North Mahaska sophomore leads the Warhawks in points, assists, rebounds, steals, and blocks, so in every statistical category, Schilling leads the Warhawks. When she’s gotten time and space to shoot the ball, she’s been effective, but she’s been effective in all aspects of the game in her sophomore season. She makes winning plays on both ends of the floor, and it’s showing for the team. The Warhawks have been one of the more successful teams in 1A so far and have an 11-1 record to back that up.
Bradie Buffington
The senior at Winfield-Mt. Union has been what the Wolves have needed this season. Buffington has owned the area around the basket and leads the Wolves in scoring, rebounding, and blocks. In 1A, possessions are limited, so rebounding is more significant in 1A than in other levels. Maximizing scoring opportunities is pivotal if you want to win games as a small school, and winning rebounding battles is one way to do it.
