Continue ReadingLindsey Davis Lindsey Davis 5’8″ | SG Nodaway Valley | 2024 State IA and Nodaway Valley have put together a season to remember thus far, starting off to a 15-4 record, 11-0 in conference while Davis is leading the team by averaging 26.4 PPG on 48% shooting. She is also dishing out 3.5 APG in attempts to move the ball, making their offense more versatile and harder to defend. Coming into Friday evening Davis is leading the state in scoring for the junior class with 475 total points, the next closest being 406 scored by Erica Houge Erica Houge 5’7″ | PG Collins-Maxwell | 2024 State IA , a 69 point difference. Other then the clear scoring skill from the versatile guard there is another stat that really jumps off the film and it’s her ability to defend. She has quick feet, good hands, and an act for taking away the ball from her opponent. She is currently tied for #1 ranked in the junior class in steals this season with 94, giving her about 5.1 per game. An incredible average to have in this category and a testament to how dedicated she is on the defensive side of the ball. I am curious to as of where she will end up for her college career. She is a solid talent on both sides of the floor and has shown that she can lead a team to a successful season as their undivided leader. She possesses every attribute that will make her a success at the next level, just depends where. She is the type of player in my book that a college coach can trust in to lead a team and program in the longevity of things.
Highlights
McKenna Sievers McKenna Sievers 5’4″ | SG Newell-Fonda | 2024 State IA and Newell-Fonda have their eye on the prize this season when it comes to goals and it’s one thing, making it back to that state playoff with a chance at a championship. Sievers has been the #1 distributor of the junior class thus far this season on the way to a 13-2 record. She has been the point guard that has been really filling up the stat sheet in most categories for her team. She is averaging just over 7 APG while registering 11.1 PPG on 51% shooting and 5.1 RPG. The best way to describe her game would be as the “energy” player of the team. She records a lot of these stats by purely being in better shape and outworking her opponent. It seems like at all points she just always has more energy than the people on the court with her, something that I don’t see as ever being a bad thing for herself. I think this team is going to make it far this season with Sievers and their group of upperclassman, which will give Sievers the ability to pass out more assists, keeping her in that #1-assist spot by the end of the year. Currently in the overall rankings she was set at the 85th rank but looking toward future updates I’m sure that she is going to be making leaps and bounds on that list, most likely moving her into the top 25, if not a little higher. An accomplishment to be extremely proud of completing in just one high school season.
Erica Houge Erica Houge 5’7″ | PG Collins-Maxwell | 2024 State IA and Collins-Maxwell high school have strung together a nice season up until this point with an overall record of 14-4 while going 10-1 in conference. Houge, an extremely active point guard, has been filling up the stat sheet at an impressive rate this year for the Spartans. Throughout their first 18 games she is averaging just under 23 PPG, 7.5 RPG, and 3.5 APG as well as grabbing a team high in steals and deflections. She is the type of player who can score from all three levels on the floor or create for others around her. She has a smooth shooting stroke which leads to a good amount of opportunities on the offensive end for herself. This has lead to Houge coming into this article ranked #2 in the state of Iowa out of the junior class in scoring at 406 total points on the season. Along with this ranking she is also in the top 5 of field goals made, steals, and field goal percentage in the class. All good categories to be involved in. Moving forward I anticipate this team to walk through the rest of the regular season with ease, with it becoming much more difficult once the playoffs begin. It’ll be a real challenge for this group to make it out of their regional but if they have some things go in their way and they just play the game they have been all season, they will put themselves in a decent position to come out on top in all contests that take place.
Isabelle Elliot
Isabelle Elliot
Isabelle Elliot snuck under the radar coming into this season but that won’t be the case for long as she has put together one of the best junior years we have see so far on the way to leading her Sumner-Fredericksburg high school team to a 13-3 record. Elliot comes in ranked #3 in the state in total rebounds so far by someone in the 2024 class while also putting up just over 21 PPG this season. Proving that she is one of the best rebounds and scorers in the state up until this point with her real talent being that ability to know where the ball is going to land off of a missed shot and to go get it for a rebound. This ability gives her and her teammates more chances on both sides of the floor throughout a game as she is averaging right around 6 offensive rebounds per game by herself. When you look at their team dynamic you see a program with three main players. Elliot, senior Alivia Lange, and junior Jana Meyer. These three make up for a majority of this teams overall stats when it comes to positives that take place throughout a game. As playoffs approach I see this team making some noise and winning a few games with their toughest challenge of the season most likely coming in their regional final and so on, as they progress forward toward the state playoffs.
Callie Levin Callie Levin 5’10” | PG Solon | 2024 State IA and the Solon Spartans are gearing up for an offseason that should have some fireworks before it’s all said and done. Levin, the crafty point guard and Iowa commit, has been doing her usual things this year and that is dominating her competition. In every contest I have see thus far this season she has been the best player on the floor, hands down, on either side of the ball. She ends up matching up with bigger guards from the opposing team in most high school situations on defense because she has other fellow teammates who are smaller than her. With her size this isn’t an issue as she welcomes it and will even post up when she has a smaller player defending her. Offensively she is lightyears ahead of where everyone else is at her age when it comes to her ability to score, dribble, and create for others around her. She isn’t a selfish payer but knows when she has to take over the game to help will her team to a victory. I really want to see this group on a big stage by the end of the year to see when Levin and company put together. It’s going to come to a point where all programs facing the Spartans will force the ball out of Levins hands and make her teammates win the game for them in the long run, something that is definitely possible with the talent they possess but we will have to wait and see.
