Throughout these past few months, Prep Girls Hoops has observed a large number of teams from all areas of the Palmetto State – and a number of those teams have 2025s that are major factors as to why they are in prime position heading into their respective tournaments.
Without further adieu, here are six sophomores (five from the different SCHSL classes plus one from SCISA) that have made big impacts for their teams.
The Titans have a record of 9-2 and have to be considered among the top SCISA 4A teams alongside Heathwood Hall, Hammond and Northwood Academy. Williamson has indeed more of a focal point this season and has thrived in that role with the Titans. She has the ability to give a team productive minutes as either a guard in the backcourt or as a forward. Among her offensive skillset is the ability to drain her 3-point attempts. Slicing through defenders and finishing at the rim is also part of said offensive repertoire. Williamson also possesses plenty of confidence and can make things happen in the midrange game. After a SCISA 3A semifinals berth last season, Williamson and her Titans have an eye on an even bigger prize this season.
Our 1A representative comes from one of the Lowcountry’s signature girls programs in the Eagles. As of this writing, Watson has taken to the court in all 20 games for Military Magnet and is averaging 13.3 points, 6.2 steals and 4.7 rebounds. As those statistics suggest, Watson brings plenty of scoring, rebounding and defensive depth that should serve the Eagles well the next two seasons. Watson can also be effective as a passer as well in addition to what she can do when attacking the rim. She is a huge part of the reason for why Military Magnet is once again a top 1A team – including going a perfect 7-0 at home.
Prep Girls Hoops recently made a trip down to the home of the 2A Red Devils to see the team take on region foe Barnwell. Wade Hampton won by a final of 54-37 and Carter contributed 14 points to the Red Devils efforts. Her speed and agility is on full display whenever she takes the court with her ability to get through defenders and deliver strong finishes at the rim. Her ability to be a ball distributor as well as a standout defender compliment what she gets done as a scorer. Carter is in her second season at Wade Hampton and has led the Red Devils to a 16-4 season – among the class of 2A teams.

With Henderson as part of the nucleus of the 3A Tigers, Blue Ridge has proven that they are not that far away from last season’s rendition that won an eye-popping 26 games. Henderson has played in 24 contests this season and is averaging 10 points, 7.6 rebounds, 6.2 assists and 3.1 steals this season. Defense is a part of her game she places plenty of emphasis on and many a ball handler knows it when Henderson’s lock down defense makes them turnover prone. Attacking the rim and drawing contact are two other strong points to Henderson’s game and this is enhanced by her free throw shooting.
Omeire stands out as a young and gifted talent on a 4A Westwood team that is veteran-heavy. Three of the four Redhawks’ losses this season have come against out-of-state opponents and the only in-state that has bested Westwood in 2022-23 is the 2A juggernaut that is Keenan. She has taken the court in 22 games this season. Corralling rebounds is one of many attributes Omeire brings to her team. A 3-point shot as well as a midrange jump shot are elements to her overall offensive repertoire. Attacking the rim and delivering all-out hustle are also integral elements to her game.

Mustapher proved in her strong freshman campaign that she would be an important piece to the 5A Knights success in coming seasons. That has continued this season as Mustapher has averaged 10.7 points and 1.8 steals in 22 matchups this season. She is skilled as a ball handler and can quickly get from one end of the floor to another with the ball in her hand. Mustapher also has no problems absorbing contact and finding her way to the free throw line. Her toughness is also an attribute she possesses as she is willing to fall to the floor if it means completing a play.
