Small school basketball can be overlooked by most because, naturally, it won’t have the number of kids to pull from as the 5A schools in the state, but there are still uber-talented kids in 1A we’ll talk about today.
The Iowa State commit isn’t only one of the best small school kids you’ll find in the country, but she’s one of the most skilled post players I’ve seen in the past year and a half. Crooks is a strong post player and can move players with her back to the basket, but her footwork is second to none. Many small things go into her post-game to make it elite, and some people miss the forest for the trees and see a kid who’s more physical than her competition and chalk it up to that. However, she scores over either shoulder, gets early position, seals, and can spin off her defender.
Sydney Doeschot Sydney Doeschot 5'8" | PG Kingsley-Pierson | 2026 State IA
Everything Doeschot does, she does with a purpose. She’s a fast wing that utilizes a triple-threat position to the max. The first-year wing can beat kids off the dribble or shoot over them. Doeschot even moves the ball quickly. She doesn’t waste any time with the ball in her hands, and it helps her teammates get clean shot attempts, which in turn helps improve Kingsley Pierson’s offense as a whole. Doeschot could be an elite player in 1A if she isn’t already.
Cox does an excellent job owning the area around the basket on both ends for Lenox. The forward also possesses touch around the basket. Countless kids struggle to score in heavy traffic around the basket at the high school level. Cox is not one of them. She also has reflexes that help her gather rebounds that come off the rim with some pace to them and finds her outlet pass to kickstart her team’s transition offense.
Paige Klocke
The Glidden-Ralston wing is a prototypical small school player. Klocke does a bit of everything to help her team win, initiate the offense, shoot from the perimeter, defend, rebound, and play through contact. I love kids who can fill multiple roles and are used to the strain that can cause. She finds a way to affect the game in every way imaginable.
