Coming into the season, Madison McKenzie Madison McKenzie 5’7″ | CG Gainesville | 2024 State VA wasn’t on my radar. But she had a fantastic season leading a terrific Gainesville Cardinals team. She is a versatile guard who can play off the ball and knock down open 3s or play on the ball and facilitate for her teammates. She is a fantastic defender and led her team in points, assists, and steals. She was first team all region, and her final numbers through 21 games are 15 PPG 3.3 APG 3.3 SPG.
PVI had another incredible season, and junior PG Sadie Shores Sadie Shores 5’10” | CG Woodgrove HS | 2024 State VA played a significant factor. Sadie always plays 100% and runs that PVI offense. She is excellent at getting downhill and has a fantastic midrange game. She’ll return next year and is expected to build on a tremendous season.
Virginia Academy captured a VISAA division 2 championship, and the two biggest reasons for that was the play of their backcourt. One-half of that fantastic backcourt is Elena Bertrand Elena Bertrand 5’5″ | PG Virginia Academy | 2023 State VA . Elena is an excellent ball-handler and very quick. She is crafty, a great passer, and always finds ways to finish over bigger defenders.

The other half of Virginia Academy’s backcourt is Joi Williams Joi Williams 5’7″ | PG Virginia Academy | 2023 State VA . Joi plays the game passionately and is a super-skilled scorer. She is quick and a fantastic shooter off the dribble. She was the edge for VA academy all year, bringing an exciting element to that team. She was their leading scorer in the title game against Miller and came up big all season.
Centreville was fantastic all year, and that has to be attributed to the play of Jahniya Marion Jahniya Marion 5’5″ | CG Centreville HS | 2024 State VA . She was named Concorde district player of the year and was a beast all season. She plays with an edge, and her passion for the game was displayed all season. Jahniya is a fantastic athlete; her quickness helps her consistently get to the rim. She uses an excellent midrange game effectively when getting by her defenders.
Grace Middleton Grace Middleton 5’6″ | SG Tuscarora | 2023 State VA is a tremendous two-way basketball player. She has excellent hands on defense and is very quick. She can shoot the ball from 3, and her defense leads to her offense as she is terrific in transition. Grace averaged 19.8 PPG, 3.6 SPG, 6 RPG, and 2.8 APG heading into regionals. She was also named region 4c player of the year.
Freshman guard A’myah Robinson A’myah Robinson 5’7″ | CG Culpeper County | 2026 State VA has been a sleeper this year. Through 20 games, Amyah averaged 21.1 PPG and an unbelievable 53% from 3 on 77 shots. She is an intelligent basketball player and will be a name to remember for the next three years.
Highlights
Senior guard was the engine for Osbourne Park. She was their leading scorer and averaged the most assists. She plays the game hard and never stops moving. I love her aggressiveness in getting to the line and her ability to run an offense. She finished the season averaging 12.8 PPG, 2.9 APG, and 3.0 SPG.
Catherine LeTendre Catherine LeTendre 6’1″ | CG Potomac School | 2025 State VA missed a lot of time this year, but she needs to be mentioned because of how different Potomac school looked without her in the lineup. Her size, mixed with her skill, makes her a mismatch. In 17 games she avereged 13.5 PPG and 3.8 RPG. Hopefully, we can get a healthy season from Catherine next year!
Highlights
Alden Yergey Alden Yergey 5’9″ | SG Brentsville | 2023 State VA ‘s numbers this year were down compared to last year, but I think she still had a better year. Her game matured a lot, and she was more efficient. She avereged 18.5 PPG 3.6 APG 4.5 RPG and 3.8 SPG. She is a great shooter and can get to the rim with her handle. Yergey can hit tough shots and is a formidable defender. She was the player of the year in her region and was huge in Brentsville’s run to the state final.
