I want to mention a few kids specifically because I believe they’re either slightly under the radar or may not be a name people are thinking about now but will be in a few months. Below is the second of the two pieces I want to write about kids who fit that description.
Because of situations out of her control, Palmer got thrust into a role where it’s hard to succeed as a team and individually. However, as the source of offense at Iowa City High, she did an excellent job helping her team compete early in the season and improve her overall game. After this season, I believe we know Palmer’s capable of more than we imagined going into the high school season. In a situation over the summer where she doesn’t have to do everything for her team, she’ll look like a different player and thrive in that environment.
Yazmeen Whitsitt Yazmeen Whitsitt 5'8" | PG Decorah | 2024 State IA
The shooting that Whitsitt brings to the floor is game-altering, and if coaches haven’t reached out already, I expect that to happen this summer. The Decorah guard has the skill and confidence to score anywhere at any time, and she loves to move off the ball and run off screens to find space to get a shot up toward the rim. Her ability to space the floor and occupy the defense’s attention for multiple seconds is more valuable than I can articulate.
Kamryn Kurt Kamryn Kurt 5'6" | PG North Linn | 2024 State IA
The North Linn guard isn’t one of the most physically dominant guards you’ll find, but she finds ways to succeed in any situation she plays in. Kurt reads the game well and reacts to any defense with the right decision, even under pressure. Throughout a contest, Kurt tends to make the right decision with the ball and does an excellent job getting her teammates the ball when and how they want to receive a pass to have the best chance to score.
The Dowling Catholic forward has the length and athleticism to make plays few others can. Over the next few years, Muller will figure things out and find ways to be more successful than she already is, which says a lot. She has a chance to be one of the most impactful forwards in her class in the state, and she’s more than capable of showing what she’s capable of this summer.
