I’m glad we’re finally able to see what Amaia Jones Amaia Jones 5’5″ | SG Eaglecrest | 2025 State CO can bring to a team when she has the ball in her hands. The sophomore guard miss her freshmen season with an ACL but was able to come out and work her way into the rotation. With her being the primary ball handler for this 16U team she now has gotten her swagger back. Using her speed to get downhill and finish at the rim as well as knocking down the 3-ball at a high level.
Kayleigh Jones Kayleigh Jones 5’10” | SF Broomfield | 2024 State CO was comfortable and confident coming into the Heart of Texas tournament and you could tell by the way she was able to perform during that time. She has the capability to play multiple positions on the floor on either side of the ball giving her a constant advantage over teams. Defensively, she has active hands leading to transition layups which swings the moment of the game. All while being a threat to shoot the ball on the offensive side of the ball.
As I’ve mentioned before, this 17U Hardwood team is completely stacked with talent and would have plenty of standouts over the course of a weekend. With that being said Damara Allen was great from beginning to end in Dallas. There are tons of ways she is able to affect a game and she put those on display in front of coaches last weekend. Defense being her number 1 way, the ability to defend at a high level is what makes it so fun to watch as she gets her first few points off steals and runouts setting up for her offensive game.
Highlights
Very few players just put their heads down and play basketball so watching Brooke Gomez just go there and hoop it’s kind of refreshing. She has the attitude, flare, and IQ you love to see in your ball handler. She is as tough as they come defensively giving up nothing easy, which causes other guards to work harder than usual for baskets. On offense she handles the ball with the best of them and can create for others as while as herself.
Jacy Chandler Jacy Chandler 5’10” | SF Littleton | 2024 State CO is a player we’ve seen plenty of over the past 3years but last weekend at Heart of Texas, the junior guard impressed me with her level of play. During the course of the tournament, she played great under pressure and was able to contribute in more ways than just scoring the ball. Chandler also was active on defense biting girls into turning the ball over which led to easy runs for her team.
