There are 30 players listed in this update, with more to be added this fall before the high school season kicks off. Currently, everyone will be ranked as “WL” or watch list, as I weed out who is going to be, in what specific spot this fall. (Don’t mind the position rank at the moment below the “WL”, that is not accurate. That’s just the order the names were added to the Watch List in general.)
Below are just some of the top guards out of the 2027 class that you NEED to know before high school action tips in November. Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Daya Phillips Daya Phillips 5’10” | CG Johnston | 2027 State IA comes into the 2027 Rankings as one of the top shooting guards, and overall guards in general, in this soon-to-be freshman class. Phillips is a combo guard who can run either the 1 or the 2 for her teams. Honestly, with her size and ability with the ball in her hands, she could even run the 3 in some situations during a contest. Phillips will join the 5A state favorites coming into this winter at Johnston high school. With the roster this team has, it could be one of those seasons where they won’t see a challenge until the state playoffs. I’m not sure how much Ari will see the floor this season to start but she definitely will be a piece to the puzzle, that is the Johnston Dragons.
The other half of the Phillips twins comes in the form of a point guard named Ari. Ari is a shifty and crafty guard, who is really good in the open court. She understands that she has a distinct advantage VS most who guard her because of her mix of size, skill, and smarts. This spring I have had a chance to watch both Daya and Ari play on a few occasion. In each contest there were moments that had the whole crowd standing because of some of the skill moves the Phillips sisters pulled out. They are going to be a lot of fun to watch in high school over the next few years. I expect these two to have a chance to be making some national headlines over their high school careers at some point. They are each special in their own right. No other way to put it.
We aren’t going to go too much into KeaOnna Worley KeaOnna Worley 5’4″ | PG Prairie | 2027 State IA here other then, it’s about time. If I remember correctly it’s been years since everyone has been asking me if Worley is a freshman yet. Well, we are almost there. Worley is in the debate for the #1 point guard out of this 2027 class going into this winter and that’s without question. All the skill, strength, smarts and ceiling are there for Worley. The question for the #1 spot will come down to efficiency and versatility. If she keep those two things on the up-and-up, I see a bright future for herself on the court. Both in high school and at the college level one day.
Highlights
Campbell Schulz Campbell Schulz 5’9″ | CG North Polk | 2027 State IA joins the 2027 Players Rankings Update as a girl with maybe the highest upside in this class at the moment. Schulz stands at around 5’8 with a guard skill set. She moves off of the ball well, while being able to set up her opponent for a three point look or a take to the basket. She has the ability to catch and knock down a shot from deep, or take her opponent off of the dribble. She is lengthier than you would expect with some nice athleticism to pair along with it. I could see Schulz over the next few years expand her basketball game and grow at the same time. If that’s the case, her game could become something really special. I expect Schulz to be on the varsity roster this upcoming winter, with the chance to learn from the experienced upperclassman they will be retuning. All this stuff is going to help Schulz learn early on what it means to be a leader in this program.
Aniyah Boens Aniyah Boens 5’8″ | CG DCG | 2027 IA is another player that has displayed advance knowledge of the game of basketball from a young age. Boens is a 5’10/11 combo guard with the ability to grow into a really talented small forward. She has a nice handle, can shoot from all over the court, and isn’t afraid to catch it in the post with her back to the basket. This spring Boens is playing up for Beyond Balls 17U AAU team and holding her own. She has put up some big numbers, in some nice wins this season for that squad while showing she belongs. Keep an eye out for Boens name to pop up this winter. She is a hard worker, who is going to do everything she can to show she belongs in this 2027 Update.
