However, after each of the Kentucky scouts sent our feedback in, they were able to get the initial rankings list together and it was officially made public late last week. Below, you will find the top 2027 combo guards from the first 2027 rankings.
2022-23 Stats: 12.2 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 43.7% FG, 27% 3FG, 70.8% FT
Outlook: If you have any questions about how talented Simons is, I want you to consider the fact that she was Nicholas County’s leading scorer last season as an 8th grader. She plays with poise beyond her years. Never seems to let anything affect her and can contribute in many ways. She really gets after it defensively and has excellent timing on her blocks. Offensively, she makes strong drives and she can elevate over defenders to get her shot off. She isn’t afraid to compete at the highest level and she is consistently improving. Simons is already a standout, but I have no doubts she is going to be a star.

Outlook: Pernell is another player who led her team in scoring last season when she was only an 8th grader and she’s clearly ready to break out even more this season after a really strong summer. If you’re playing against her, she’s going to quickly make you respect her ability to score at all 3 levels. She consistently proved she can put the ball in the basket at a high level no matter who she’s playing with or against. She brings quickness and a high IQ on the defensive end of the court as well, and she can get into passing lanes to come up with steals. Watch for what she does this season as Simon Kenton looks to repeat as the 8th Region Champions.
2022-23 Stats: 3.5 PPG, 1.8 RPG, 34.2% FG, 24.1% 3FG, 62.1% FT
Outlook: I’m not sure if the 11th Region has a breakout player of the year award at the end of the season, but if they do, look for Brown to be in contention. She continuously opened people’s eyes at the PGH Freshman Showcase with her quick, shifty ball handling and ability to get to the rim at ease. She makes it very hard for defenders to stay in front of her and she was scoring inside and out. Defensively, she can apply a ton of pressure and she has good hands. I wouldn’t be surprised to see every single statistical category increase significantly this upcoming season with the talent she has.
2022-23 Stats: 8.8 PPG, 1.5 RPG, 39.5% FG, 27.7% 3FG, 53.2% FT
Outlook: Potts was Tates Creeks 2nd leading scorer last season as an 8th grader, and after they graduated their leading scorer, she is poised to not only take over that role, but she will likely significantly increase her scoring average from a year ago. The lefty can knock down quick triples or get to the rim. She finishes floaters well also and can make good passes through traffic. She’s comfortable with the ball in her hands and she recognizes that she doesn’t need much space to make stuff happen. Be watching for Potts this season as she should hit double digits in every game she plays in.
2022-23 Stats: 0.9 PPG, 0.5 RPG, 30.4% FG, 26.7% 3FG, NO FTA
Outlook: Braffet is a big sleeper in the 2027 class, but I feel like it’s not going to take long for many people from across the state to take notice of the talent she brings to the court. She is a very versatile player. She’s stronger than most players her own age and she can play any guard position effectively. She could even play inside if you really needed her to because she has great touch around the rim and strong moves she can use around the basket. Her stats from last season are really deceiving because Whitefield had a lot of upperclassmen that had already established themselves at the Varsity level, but I have a feeling things will look a lot different for Braffet this season as she has proven to be a player they can rely on.

Outlook: Smith is a player that I’ve been hearing good things about for years now. She’s always competed and held her own against players much older than her. She’s quick and has very strong guard skills. A true 2-way player that can impact the game on both ends of the court. I didn’t get to watch her play last season or this summer, so I know she’s probably an even better player now than the last time I got to see her play, but I’m very excited to see what she does at Sacred Heart.
2022-23 Stats: 11 PPG, 5.4 RPG, 35% FG, 19.4% 3FG, 60.7% FT
Outlook: Dye is another player I had always heard great things about and after getting to see her in person, I am a big fan of her game. She just brings so much value to the court. She can knock down deep triples, has a good midrange game, and makes strong drives to the basket. However, she is so much more than just a scoring threat. It is going to be so fun watching her team up with the players at Southwestern this season because I think she’s a perfect fit for their team. She can handle the ball and distributes it so well, and there are parts of her game that really remind me of Kinsley Molden Kinsley Molden 5’6″ | SG Southwestern | 2025 State KY who she’ll now be playing with. Dye has a very bright future and will definitely be a name to watch for this season.

Outlook: Johnson really isn’t a combo guard, but since she was put in this position group, I still want to make sure to include her in this article. She actually plays down low where she can play the forward or center positions effectively. Her skillset in the post is pretty advanced, especially on the offensive end of the floor. She has excellent post moves and great touch. She can power through defenders, or she can elevate over them. She is a strong rebounder and has great shot blocking skills. Johnson is the kind of player who can get a double-double in any given game and will likely average that at some point in her career, maybe even this season.
