Ashleah is another Valkyrie who has waited her turn to be in the spotlight at SHA and she should thrive this season as a defensive stopper. The daughter of a coach, Smith has the basketball IQ and motor that can make a difference in the game without necessarily filling up the scorebook. A quick guard, Smith can get into the paint and score or kick to teammates. With Sacred Heart in the beginning of life after Z Johnson, there should be plenty of opportunity for the Junior to earn more time on the court.

Smith is resilient on defense, creates turnovers and finds a way of getting the ball in the basket with tight defense on her! She does all the little things that add up to buckets! (Below grabbing rebound, in gray)

Outlook: Smith is a player that I’ve been hearing good things about for years now. She’s always competed and held her own against players much older than her. She’s quick and has very strong guard skills. A true 2-way player that can impact the game on both ends of the court. I didn’t get to watch her play last season or this summer, so I know she’s probably an even better player now than the last time I got to see her play, but I’m very excited to see what she does at Sacred Heart.
