I’m not sure if this group will have the same reputation at this time next season as the 26s do now, but there will be kids who make names for themselves in the regular and post-seasons.
The tangible thing that Harden will do the second she plays her first minute for Vel Phillips Memorial is break down defenses off the dribble. She’s good at changing speeds and directions and seeing what’s going on around her once she gets going towards the rim. Harden’s at her best when the ball is in her hands. I’d expect when she has the ball in her hands, the Spartans offense would be at its best. The Spartans have the widest variation of possible record outcomes this season because we don’t know how the pieces fit there yet, but talent-wise, they could arguably be a top-four team in the Big Eight.
Taressa Hennes Taressa Hennes 6'0" | SF Hartford Union | 2027 State WI
I don’t know if Hartford could’ve asked for a more perfect frontcourt fit alongside Makena Christian Makena Christian 6'0" | PF Hartford | 2025 State WI . Where Christian’s game may not be its best, Hennes’ does, and where Hennes’ game isn’t its best, Christian’s is. Hennes has the athleticism that’ll allow Christian to play away from more ball-dominant players and play closer to the paint, where she can grab rebounds. All the 50-50 balls that the Orioles couldn’t get last season, Hennes will get to and swing the courses of games in their favor. Hennes will allow them to play faster and score more in transition. With Hennes and another Oriole, we’ll get to in a second, this team becomes more multi-faceted, and if there’s buy-in, we could be talking about a group who could make a run to the Resch Center.
Rita Kuepper Rita Kuepper 5'6" | PG Hartford Union | 2027 WI
Kuepper gives Hartford talent at the guard spot it hasn’t had in a while. Last season, there were multiple possessions late in games where Christian took on on-ball duties, which took her away from areas on the court where she could dominate. Now there’s a guard in orange who can score off the dribble, get the ball to the talented frontcourt players so they can attack mismatches, and there’s a calming presence at the point of attack that everyone should trust to make plays. There were two pieces Hartford was missing last season. A 6-0 defensive-minded athlete and a guard who could make things happen, and they added both pieces. The four-player groupings of Rita Kuepper Rita Kuepper 5'6" | PG Hartford Union | 2027 WI – Bella Klages Bella Klages 5'11" | CG Hartford | 2026 State WI -Makena Christain- Taressa Hennes Taressa Hennes 6'0" | SF Hartford Union | 2027 State WI could upset the Homestead dominance that’s dominated the conference over the last two seasons.
Anna Miller Anna Miller 5'8" | PG Edgewood | 2027 State WI
If I had to guess, Miller could be the most effective lead guard coming into the high school ranks this season. Miller isn’t a flashy ball-handler who takes tough shots and has the crowd on the edge of their seats. She keeps everything simple and makes it look mesmerizing. I don’t think anyone in the Badger will get many turnovers off her this season because she seems to create layups when teams press her. There’s no winning for defenses that pressure her. However, if you give her time and space, she’ll rip defenses apart. There’s a specific balance to strike defending her. After watching her, I think people will agree with me when I say well over 90% of teams would be better with her as their lead guard.
