When you watch Sammons play, you see why Adkins is so optimistic about this point guard. Even though Wayne presents plenty of challenges for Sammons, she knows how to find her teammates strengths and weaknesses. She’s a penetrator who pushes herself to be better and more knowledgeable every time down the court, or at least she was on Sunday. She showed great court vision, the ability to find her teammates in good spots for shots, and a never-ending motor that is going to make Wayne that much harder to guard when she pairs alongside Adkins at the guard spots for the Pioneers. The amount of talented passing available to Wayne is insane. You just know Sammons will make an immediate impact for the Pioneers.
Riley “Bibs” Felton, Keyser, SG, 5-10, Fr. – I will admit – I knew nothing about this young lady until this past weekend. What do I know now? She’s going to help Keyser, right away. Seriously. If her game follows over, the Golden Tornadoes will have a strong freshman scorer out of the gate. She runs the floor, plays hard, and knows how to get to the basket from anywhere on the floor. When you watch her, you get a sense that she is at home at the shooting guard position. AAA may be loaded, but don’t forget about the Golden Tornadoes – you will miss the opportunity to see a solid freshman with a great nickname.
Mary Rushworth Mary Rushworth 6'1" | PF Charleston Catholic | 2026 State WV , Charleston Catholic, SF, 5-11, So. – When Wheeling Central took on Charleston Catholic at the state tournament last season, my attention was focused on a column. I finally got to watch Rushworth play Sunday. And, I left impressed. She used her lengthy frame to her advantage all day. When the time came for her to bang down low with Karson Jones Karson Jones 5'11" | PF Nitro | 2026 State WV , Allie Daniels Allie Daniels 6'1" | PF Spring Valley | 2025 State WV and other bigs, she didn’t hesitate. She even pulled down a few boards that she probably shouldn’t have. She also showed a great ability to penetrate and play around the basket. The Irish will certainly benefit from her improvements during the winter season.
Brooke Edge, Wheeling Central, PG, 5-4, Jr. – I immediately understood why Wheeling Central evolved to a dynamic up-tempo team as I watched Brooke Edge play basketball Saturday. Who would not want to take advantage of such a fearless downhill passer, who clears people out of her way. Seriously. Edge showed off an impressive downhill no-holds barred approach. Using a bulldozer-like mentality, she bullied down the lane and into enemy territory. Once there, she either made a quick kick pass to her teammate who usually had an open shot, or she took it to the hole herself. Her passes were quick, accurate and purposeful. I am really excited to see where Wheeling Central goes this season, especially after the addition of Class AAAA transfer Kaitlyn Blake Kaitlyn Blake 5'9" | SF Wheeling Central | 2025 State WV .
Alivia Monroe, Wyoming East, PF, 5-10, Jr. – Wyoming East fans have been on me to see this kid. Now, I know why. She was a huge problem on the defensive end of the floor on Sunday. No matter what game or what position, she always came out with excellent defensive instincts. She showed she still has some work to do on offensive and has a tendency to watch the ball in the air instead of positioning for a box out. But, she’s got the makings of someone who can help a D-III or NAIA school with her build and ability to defend.
