Continue ReadingWith the beginning of every new season, it means there is a changing of guard per se with each high school team. Some teams may have graduated players, and some players may be calling a new school home. In this series called, “Next player up,” I’m looking at some of the conference winners from last season and the players that are going to step up to help their team continue to have success.
Lake Norman had a dominant season winning the Greater Metro 4A conference behind the leadership of Kirsten Lewis-Williams. While she certainly took over games showing off her ability to score against anyone, she had a lot of help from a group that is ready to carry on a dominant season for the Wildcats.
Samantha Shehan Samantha Shehan 6'0" | CG Lake Norman | 2025 State NC has such a quick release with her shot being able to knock it down from all over the court. She is constantly moving all over the court looking for the open spot attacking the gaps. Her presence constantly shifts defenses and makes her a main attraction for opponents. She follows shots and puts up offensive rebounds scoring inside, too.
You aren’t seeing double as there is another Shehan on the team. Alexis Shehan Alexis Shehan 6'0" | SF Lake Norman | 2025 State NC does it all for her team getting inside for the pass and bucket as well as grabbing rebounds on both ends. She flashes in the paint with her outstretched hands ready to make a move off the pass. She can set herself up around the perimeter scoring from deep, and she can show off some post moves with her quick footwork, too.
Addison Sirianni Addison Sirianni 5'7" | CG Lake Norman | 2025 State NC is another junior in this group who handles the ball well facilitating plays for her team. She sets herself up creating her own space for her shot, and she can come off offensive sets being ready for the pass to score. She controls the tempo being able to push the ball up the court usually gaining possessions off steals from her stripping the ball away from her opponents.
Kelsey Rhyne Kelsey Rhyne 5'10" | SG Lake Norman | 2026 State NC started as a freshman last season, and she is sure to continue showing off why she earned all of that playing time a year ago. She provides a good boost of energy for her team with her excitement off big plays. Her ability to knock down shots from anywhere around the perimeter is sure to be seen in each game, and she can handle the rock well getting to the basket with ease scoring off her fingertips.
Jeta North Jeta North 6'0" | PF 1 of 1 Prep | 2026 State NC has had a strong summer earning the attention of college coaches, and she will certainly be someone gaining more playing time. She is strong on the block sealing off her opponents making herself a big target for the entry pass. She fights for rebounds on both ends of the court. Her ability to score isn’t limited to inside the paint as she is expanding the floor showing off her range shooting the ball.
