It is time to give these local girls their dues and props as they deserve the recognition and they also deserve to be on a platform to help their recruiting and national rankings as well as local rankings. In this intro post, we will pay homage to some past players as well as current players who have paved the way for this to happen.
Past Players
With so many of the local girls playing in state there are a lot that have chosen to leave the state as well. Here are a few of the past players that have paved the way and continue to dominate at the next level.
Kailey Woolston || Lone Peak High School || BYU || 2023
Kailey averaged 20 PPG, 8 RPG, 2 APG and 2 STLS with that amazing stat line she had schools from all over recruiting her. She had an amazing prep career and looks to start an amazing collegiate career as well.
Taya Sidberry || Judge Memorial Catholic || Boston College || 2022
Taya was dominant when she was in high school and was a big pickup for the Utes as she has been able to get some run and make an impact on a very good Utah team as a true freshman.
Emma Calvert || Fremont High School || BYU || 2021
The 6’4 current junior at BYU played on one of if not the best high school girls team here in Utah at Fremont High School. She averaged 7 PPG for the Cougs last season so look for her to add to that this year.
Kennady McQueen || North Summit High School || University of Utah || 2020
One of the most impressive athletes on the basketball and volleyball floor. She even racked up three state championships in volleyball. She is a solid player thathas earned two straight Pac-12 Honorable Mentions the past two years.
Kemery Martin || Corner Canyon High School || Cal Berkley || 2019
Kemery averaged 20 PPG as a senior and for Cal she put up 17 PPG as her game really translated to the next level.
Lauren Gustin || Salem Hills High School || BYU || 2018
Lauren dominated as a grab and go big that would just make easy work of anything near the rim but she is very skilled and is doing work at BYU as one of their best players.
Current PGH Utah Players
The list of is endless of the talent on the girls side and we are excited to cover a lot of players that can play at different levels. Here is a glimpse
Shawnee Nordstrom Shawnee Nordstrom 5'6" | PG Lone Peak | 2024 State UT out of Lone Peak High School made her announcement and she is heading to Cal Baptist University out in Southern California where she will have some major beach vibes but the girl can hoop and she is a reason Lone Peak is favored to win it all again in 6A, so look out for her. Then you move over to 4A where there are a lot of hooper but the D1 factory is in full effect over at Ridgeline as Emilee Skinner Emilee Skinner 6'0" | CG Ridgeline | 2025 State UT is not only one of the best players regardless of class but she is one of the top players in the country and she even made some waves at the Adidas All-American camp this past year so look out for her because she has offers from so many schools across the country. Over on the upper Eastside at Brighton High School you have sharp shooting and play making guard Olivia Stephens Olivia Stephens 5'8" | PG Brighton | 2026 State UT who looks to elevate her high school team and be a true contender in 5A. Olivia makes tough buckets look easy but she is a workhorse that will only get better with time as she can be a lead guard or off the ball, she is tuff, tuff. Watch out for the Class of 2027 as they have some girls that have potential to really take the reigns early and see varsity time immediately and Veanna Pau’u Veanna Pau’u 6'2" | C Cyprus | 2027 State UT is one of them over at Cyprus so look out because she is tough and she is just scratching the surface when it comes to her skill level.
