One of those articles being our Player Of The Week. The POTW is an individual that displayed what it means to put on a major performance/s for their perspective squad. A player can win this award for a number of reasons but most importantly because their overall play helped lead their team to a competitive contest.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Player Of The Week: Jayla Williams Jayla Williams 5'10" | CG Ankeny | 2026 State IA
High School: Ankeny
Class: 2026
Height / Position: 6’0 / Guard
Stat Line:
- 12/5/23 @ Southeast Polk – 32 Pts (13-23), 8 Rebs, 4 Assists, 5 Steals, 1 Block, 7 TO’s
One of the most skilled players throughout the state, regardless of age-level or grade-level is Jayla Williams Jayla Williams 5'10" | CG Ankeny | 2026 State IA of Ankeny High School. To start off her Sophomore season, Williams has been making a statement. As of most recent, this past week, Williams put up a major stat line in attempts to help her team get a big victory against a ranked Southeast Polk team on the road. In the end, Williams efforts were successful as her Hawks squad came out with the 5 point victory. She ended the contest with 32 points on 13-23 shooting, along with grabbing 8 rebounds, dishing out 4 assists, and snagging 5 steal throughout. If you know anything about Williams and her game, it’s efficient and unique. She is athletic, has length because of that natural size, and is very skilled with the basketball in her hands as a high-level playmaker. Currently she is a multiple-sport athlete that excels in almost anything she puts her mind to. Before you know it, she will be committed to a Power 5 University to compete at the next level on the Hardwood, if that’s her sport of choice at the end of her high school career. As for right now, Williams is her teams “engine” in many different aspects. If everyone can keep coming together and do their job’s each and every night, this Ankeny team is going to win a lot of games this winter and they will be in the State Playoff conversation come 2024. They are well coached and have the personal on roster, they just need to keep it simple, play their game and it’ll all work out for the best.
