Over the next couple of weeks, I will be releasing my annual All-State teams for each of the four school classifications. In the meantime, I wanted to turn the focus on some ladies who played well after Christmas this 2023-2024 season. Below is a look at five such ladies who I felt stood out with their play in January and February.

– Laniah has been a high-level scoring threat each of her two years of high school ball, but during the postseason, there were times she put her team on her back and willed them to wins. She is extremely strong for her age, athletic, and she can really attack downhill North/South, get to the rim, and finish in a variety of ways. When she doesn’t finish, she is a great offensive rebounder as well. Defensively, she has improved her awareness quite a bit.

– Carly was a big reason why the Bulldogs had a really nice all-around season. They finished with just two losses, and a lot of it was her ability to handle and take care of the basketball, then get it where it needed to go on time, on target. She is strong for her size, tough-nosed, and assertive. She can knock down an open jumper or attack the basket and score, but she almost prefers to set up teammates. She’s also an effective on-ball defender.

– Gabby is a fairly strong, active, and North/South athletic forward who plays with a motor and toughness. She has really nice touch from the perimeter, but she can also drive it, absorb contact, and finish in the paint. She kind of has a little Sydney Graber in her, but I think Gabby could eventually do more with the dribble. Right now, she’s most comfortable in the mid-post, extending to the 3-point line to bury outside jumpers.

– Lexi helped lead the #1 team in Class 2A much of the year. She is a really talented athlete who can run & jump with most prospects her age. She has a wiry-strong frame that has gotten stronger, and she works hard when she’s on the floor. Her perimeter jumper continues to improve, as does her change-of-direction ball-handling, but she’s still most comfortable attacking the basket North/South. I also like her urgency at the defensive end of the floor.

, 2026, 5-8 SG/SF, Rensselaer Central H.S.
– Kamri is an extremely tough-nosed, physical, and competitive wing prospect. She isn’t afraid to put on her hardhat and get inside to battle, whether that’s offensively attacking the basket or posting smaller defenders, or if it’s defensively, having to defend someone bigger than herself or battling on the boards for caroms. She does have some ball skill and can create a little, but she will need to continue working on her lateral quickness.
