MDPSSBT which is the short way of saying Maryland Private School State Basketball started last year with the boys and was a big hit. This year the end of season tournament expands to include girls. Sure anyone can just grab a bunch of teams and say we are doing a girls tournament as we see popups come and go in the DMV. You can consider it legitimate when you have Marc and “Bball Meri” (Meredith Davis) running the show and Tink Butler (PGH & NSP) endorsing it making this an elite level event that will be the target for teams for years to come. This is an 8 team tournament with some of the heavy hitters on the Maryland private school side. Here are some of the must see players that you don’t want to miss.
Sanai at 6’0″ moves around like a two guard. Bullis drew a lot of attention this season with Meghan’s transfer and Ivanna enrolling. With most of the team returning next season Sanai will be the catalyst that move the Bulldogs from contenders to champions. Keep an eye on her as she is an under the radar player with above board skill.
With the Crusaders losing some six footers to graduation, now is the time to debut Ariana for the future of RBS. At 6’2″ she has the size to step on a college campus and help day one. She can certainly use this tournament as her audition for the premier player spot for her senior season.
Rosedale Christian has been answering the major tournament invite call for a couple of years. Now is the time to showcase their 6’4″ freshman. The 7 pm game against Bishop McNamara should be a great opportunity for us as well as college coaches to scale her.
After a tough fought WCAC Championship Game, Ron can relax a little bit and plan out his future. Logan’s athleticism at 5’11” shows a lot of promise in workouts and warmups. This tournament will surely give us an opportunity to see how it all translates into game mode. She is one of the players that I’m excited about seeing her on the floor.
Highlights
Boogie showed Nyla off during Christie Winters-Scott’s showcase and it paid off for her in a top 20 ranking. This will be another opportunity to lay eyes on her in the 8:40 night cap against Elizabeth Seton. If she continues to impress against WCAC competition her stock can rise even more.
