One thing that stood out to me when looking at the list was the number of very high quality centers there were. It can be difficult for next level coaches to spot much true post talent, but there appears to be a spoil of riches in the 2027 class. Let’s take a closer look at the top 5 ranked centers.
Becher has drawn, and will draw a lot more attention from next level coaches. And for good reason. Her height and length just can’t be taught. Becher is an absolute force on the defensive end where she consistently challenges and blocks shots. She moves well and has good feet for a young player with her height. Becher plays way stronger than her frame would suggest as well.
Berlin is a scary prospect for future Canton High School opponents. We knew she was a very talented post player coming in as a freshman, but she just kept getting better and more comfortable as the season went along. Berlin was a menace in the paint on the defensive end of the floor with her ability to block shots and redirect ball handlers that attack the lane.
Backus is a very talented post player. So good that the number next to her name doesn’t necessarily do justice to her game. She does an excellent job using her strength to establish position on the block and she does very nice work with her back to the basket. Backus reads the ball off the rim and attacks the boards accordingly.
Davis turned a lot of heads in her freshman season with Ferndale. She excelled as a go-to scorer and really looked like the type of player that just simply makes her team better. Davis could score with force and athleticism around the rim. She proved to be an elite rebounder that could go over the top to get boards as well as chase them down.
Woiteshek is a player and prospect to keep a very close eye on over the coming years. She’s a natural athlete and a multi sport star. Woiteshek can play tremendous vertical defense and moves very well for a young post player. She proved to a consistent points and rebounds double-double threat as a freshman.
