Continue ReadingDo not let the numbers fool you. Hina can play. This young PG had the privilege of playing on a loaded Cannon School team that won a NCISAA state title in the 2023-2024 hoops season. Hina was one of the most impressive freshman seen at the 2023 PGH Freshman Showcase and she showed us an abundance of talent with her all around skillset. She is capable of stretching the floor as she is a dynamic shooter. She can spot up from anywhere on the perimeter and she must be accounted for as she has shown the ability to be able to drain the deep ball. As she continues to develop under Cannon’s veteran coaching staff, it is only a matter of time before she starts garnering more attention.

Already one of the top players in North Carolina, I still believe there is even more levels this guard from Hibriten High can reach. She has a very high basketball IQ. She is tough to defend in that she is not predictable and she is hard to get a read on. When you think she will slow the game down, she’s pushing the tempo. When you think she’s going to shoot, she driving right by you to find the open teammate. When you think she’s driving, she’ll knock down the 3 ball. She is a very good perimeter shooter and all around floor general. As a coach, you just have to feel good when the ball is in her hands. She is not careless with the ball, very fundamentally sound and she makes all the right decisions. She is going to get the ball where it needs to go. I really love how she plays the half court set as she can operate well in pick and roll situations and she will spread the ball around to her teammates. As she continues to learn and grow her game, the sky will be the limit for her.

Hays, NC may not be big in population but there is certainly a star brewing at North Wilkes High School. Shalyn has very good basketball instincts and is an obvious high IQ player. She is certainly a leader on the team and very vocal on defense as you can see her helping teammates get in position. She has very good size, standing over 6’0 tall and can play a multitude of positions. She can guard the middle or step out and guard the perimeter without missing a beat. She is an exceptional rebounder with very strong hands . Her length is bothersome to opponents and she can alter shots that are taken in her direction. She does a good job finishing at the rim and she plays well in transition. She runs the floor hard and at times you will see her beat everyone down the court in transition. College coaches must take note as Shalyn definitely has all the tools to be a special player.
This talented young guard from Dudley is showing all the signs that she has what it takes to be ‘next up’. There is something very intriguing to her game that you see whenever she has the ball in her hands. She is very good at getting to paint, using her quick first step to beat her defender. She operates extremely well off the dribble and she has a nice set of moves to use to get to the rim. She is very athletic and agile and makes good decisions with the ball whenever she sees the double team. She is certainly trending upward right now and very capable of having a breakout sophomore campaign.
During the summer of 2023, Cuthertbertson PG Christian Johnson Christian Johnson 5’4″ | PG Cuthbertson | 2027 State NC was one of the best 3 point shooters I saw during travel ball season. She had numerous games where she drained multiple 3’s in the face of her opponents. She is a very competitive and feisty guard that will get after it on both ends. A coach will never have to question effort when she is playing. She can play in a multitude of sets as her ability to shoot from deep always keeps her on the floor. She can handle sliding over to the 2 guard spot and play off the ball and set up as a spot up shooter. She is another player that is going to do well over the next few years as she has an extremely high understanding of the game.
