Friday’s matchups featured the 1A and 3A teams while Saturday’s games featured the 2A and 4A teams. Each game had only one person that was voted to be the Most Valuable Player in the competition. Let’s take a look at those MVP’s.
Cecily Swimmer came right out to play scoring the first bucket of the game on a fast break. She was grabbing steals on the other end picking the pocket of her opponents and immediately pushing them up the court for some points. She sees the floor so well finding her open teammates cutting to the basket. She was constantly moving all over the court making sure she’s a problem on defense and can easily get to the ball on offense.
Highlights
Jordan Speller got the scoring started for the Panthers and never let up filling in the openings and scoring on the block. She followed that up with a steal and solo fast break to get the first four points. She was doing a nice job getting the open looks for her teammates as she draws her opponents towards her opening up the court for the pass. She is so careful handling the ball getting to the rim with her moves, and she is sure to strip the ball on defense taking it the other direction.
Lauren Arnold was flashing all across the court getting the pass and showing off her midrange. She didn’t back down from contact earning trips to the free throw line. She hustled back on defense blocking shots in transition to prevent her opponents from scoring on fast breaks. She matched her number of points with rebounds as she was battling inside for boards on both ends of the court.
Caitlyn Jones was making her moves handling the ball creating her own space and pulling up for jumpers. She used her tough defense on the other end pushing the ball up the court and making floaters in transition from the paint. She followed shots getting rebounds on the defensive side of the ball. She took matters into her own hands when her team needed a boost attacking the basket weaving around her opponents to get to the rim. She showed her athleticism with a nice shot block in transition.
