Continue ReadingOn Wednesday, May 15th, I had the wonderful opportunity to visit Michigan Vice 2025 practice at Brighton High School. Michigan Vice has many KLAA and LVC prospects who I was very impressed by during the 2023-24 high school season and I relished the opportunity to evaluate them in a different environment. This team is loaded with NAIA, D3, and JUCO prospects that have a high floor and high ceiling as recruits. Head Coach Jason Fannon has worked with these girls for years and their respect for him is evident during practice. The girls were dialed in during coach-led walkthroughs and very receptive to feedback. Coach Fannon mentioned the importance of catching to shoot; looking to score first, and then looking to pass or dribble. What I appreciated about Fannon’s instruction was how precise and direct his instruction was when he explained the task to the girls. Fannon has numerical goals for the team’s drills and individual goals for their shooting. With the boy’s team dunking and warming up on the adjacent court, none of the girls were distracted during walkthroughs; they were all fixated on their coaches. One of my favorite moments of the experience was after practice when I had the privilege to sit down and discuss elements of the recruiting process with the team. The girls were glued in and demonstrated eye contact with the utmost maturity and courtesy. My challenge to all high school girls and parents is to advocate for the women’s game and increase perspective about the next level by attending D2, NAIA, D3, and JUCO games. I was so greatly encouraged that girls on the team frequently watch the WNBA. This team works extremely hard during practice and the proof is in the pudding! Michigan Vice 2025 will be one of our top 2025 teams at the Prep Girls Hoops Live in Mount Pleasant on May 18th and 19th. If you are not recruiting these girls as an NAIA, D3, and JUCO coach you should check them out this weekend at our event.

Alena Tiernan
Alena Tiernan
Alena Tiernan was praised by her head coach as a lock down defender, but she showed plenty of offensive firepower to make an impression at Michigan Vice 2025 practice Wednesday. Alena demonstrates ball handling control with her push-out dribbles and control around the rim as she scored a contested reverse layup. She is quick off the draw with a smooth, accurate jumper from all three levels and a balanced left, right step on the catch. Alena sank 3 straight shots from the elbow with a high follow through and drilled a wing 3 during the scrimmage (MOI, Chemical Engineering).

Brooke Moyer
Brooke Moyer
Brooke Moyer (2026) is a dynamic guard who checked a number of boxes for Michigan Vice 2025 at practice on Wednesday. Brooke was one of the most fundamentally sound defenders on the court. She had an excellent closeout with a wide base and great technique, while denying/redirecting cutters off the ball. Brooke caught fire during the shooting session, drilling 4 shots in a row including two 3’s from up top. Brooke demonstrated next level awareness by driving and kicking the ball out to an open teammate. During the scrimmages, Brooke drove and scored on a drive with her left and used a spin dribble 360 move to score with her left at the rim (MOI, Pre-Med).

Kayla Matties
Kayla Matties
Kayla Matties showed the leadership and skills coaches want to see at the next level for Michigan Vice 2025 at practice on Wednesday. Her and Ava were the first girls in the gym and she used her own basketball to warm-up before practice. She finished her layups moving full speed in the full court passing segment. During 3 v 3’s, Kayla talked the loudest and most often, she deflected passes on defense, and buried a deep wing jumper. She demonstrated skilled footwork by using a forward pivot step through in the paint, made an assist, and hit a contested wing jump shot. Kayla was an efficient shooter making a high percentage of shots on the move from different spots during the shooting segment. She scored a wing 3 and made an impressive drive reverse pivot kick out assist during the scrimmage. (MOI, Nursing).

caught my attention at a tournament a few weeks ago with her burst to the basket on her downhill drives and she showed many skills at
Michigan Vice
2025 practice that make her an excellent guard prospect. Emma finished contested layups and scored with her left off two; she demonstrated balance and consistency a shooter off the catch during drills. She buried a wing 3 and sprinted from wing to wing during a shooting drill. Emma drove with her right and used a spin dribble to score a contested finish. During the scrimmage, she played quick on ball defense deflecting passes and stealing the ball multiple times. Emma paused and exploded by her defender to draw a foul and drilled a 3 from up top (MOI, Business).

Aliah Coppock
Aliah Coppock
Aliah Coppock (2026) is someone who I watched dominate during a JV summer scrimmage as a freshman and she has become quite the impressive prospect for Michigan Vice 2025. At practice Wednesday, she demonstrated how her hard work has led to a combination of offensive skills that compliment her exceptional athleticism. Aliah had me shaking my head twice in disbelief as she paused, then exploded with a left dribble by her defender to score a contested right hand scoop around an attempting shot blocker. She elevated to block a shot in the paint on defense and elevated to finish off two on offense. Aliah demonstrated her strength by threading strong passes to teammates and she crashed the boards to score an offensive rebound put back. Aliah took a handoff and accelerated to score a contested layup; she knocked down a wing 3. Aaliah sprinted all out from wing to wing in the shooting drill and anticipated the shot off the rim during the scrimmage to score an offensive rebound put back (MOI, Business).

was limited at practice with an injury, but is a prospect I will look forward to seeing for
Michigan Vice
2025 once she is cleared! Coach Fannon mentioned that Megan is an excellent defender and 3 point shooter. At practice, she actively communicated and directed others during walk-throughs and was an active participant the entire time (MOI, Biology).

Macie Hunter
Macie Hunter
Macie Hunter (GVSU Soccer) was an impressive power forward for Michigan Vice 2025 at practice on Wednesday. Coach Fannon let me know that Macie is committed to GVSU for Goalie, which shows just how much she loves the game of basketball to be traveling this spring. Macie was praised by coach for her defense and she demonstrated why by communicating screens and walling up to force a miss in the paint. She showed solid footwork to catch an entry pass and score with a drop step. Macie extended her range up top to knock down a 3 and she scored a free throw jumper off the catch. Macie scored with a quick cut, catch, and finish at the rim. She proved she is an outstanding basketball player in addition to soccer (MOI, Pre-Med)

was limited by injury at practice and was not able to compete on the court for
Michigan Vice
2025. However, based on her height and physical strength, I anticipate Kennedy will have an excellent opportunity to step inside for Hartland’s two college basketball 2024 graduates next winter. I look forward to watching her compete for the Eagles (MOI, Physical Therapy).

MI
(2026) is an incredibly athletic, fast, and versatile guard prospect for
Michigan Vice
2025. She carved out a huge role for herself with South Lyon East last season and has noticeably developed an effective three level offensive game. Nyla was praised by Coach Fannon as a go-to offensive scorer for her team. She came right to practice from softball and showed no signs of fatigue in her game. She was one of the highest percentage shooters during the relocation 3 point shooting drill. Nyla combines her balance and speed to outrace others for rebounds on both ends; she has the strength to battle for positioning or elevate over the top for the ball. Nyla makes strong passes and has unique athleticism that many guards don’t (MOI, Undecided).
Highlights
Ava McKaig has battled through tremendous circumstances to overcome injury and I was very pleased to see her competing on the court again at practice for Michigan Vice 2025. Ava and Kayla arrived first for practice and she warmed up with her own ball doing form shooting around the basket. She scored layups effectively with both hands while running at full speed during the transition passing drill. Ava throws quick passes with soft hands and even used a no-look dish during the 3 on 2 drill. Ava works hard defensively, she denied the post entry and deflected the pass away for a steal; she aggressively guarded the ball to deflect and steal another pass. Ava attacked a defender then created space with her dribble to score a mid-range pull up jumper and had the body control to attack on a drive and leap up over the top to make a pass for an assist. Ava scored multiple mid-range jumpers, hit a wing 3, and blew by her defender with a left drive to draw a foul during the scrimmage. She sealed strong in the low post and battled for offensive rebounds. Ava is a breakout candidate for Hartland this winter and an outstanding CG prospect (MOI, Pre-Med).

Reece Tucker
Reece Tucker
Reece Tucker is a 2028 for Inspire U who wasn’t planning to earn recognition on Wednesday, but she played so well on the court I couldn’t leave her out! She fit right in with the older group of girls in her approach to learning and her performance on the floor. Reece is a pesky defender and difficult to dribble around as she stole the ball away during the 2 on 1 drill. She scored with an emphatic elevation off two feet against a defender in the paint. Reece showed determination as she worked laterally to cut off a dribble drive and jumped up to deflect the pass. She missed her shot and outworked everyone for the offensive rebound put back. Reece is a forward prospect who will be on my radar and someone I anticipate she is going to soar when she arrives at the high school scene.
