Saturday, June 8th kicked off summer Varsity season with a bang as many talented teams competed at Belleville High School for a full day of basketball. Prospects have been competing on the travel circuit all spring and today gave us a glimpse into how the high school scene will look this winter. One of the most exciting parts of summer league is seeing, which underclassmen compete in a large role with their Varsity programs. Here are the 2026, 2027, and 2028 prospects who stood out the most as I watched them compete on Saturday.

[player_tooltip player_id='898878' first='Kaiya' last='Mahabir'] is going to be a special PG in the SVL and she started her Varsity career on the right foot for Midland at the SS16 Shootout. Kaiya worked extremely hard to pressure the ball and showed the competency to escape pressure, drive downhill, and score contested floaters at the rim. Kaiya outworked her opponents for offensive rebounds and dished strong passes for assists. She sees the court well and pushes the tempo in transition. Kaiya has been fun to watch all spring and is a prospect we hope to see at our Freshman Showcase in August.

Sydney was a clutch performer for Belleville at the SS16 Shootout on Saturday and her big-time shots led her team to the tourney title. Sydney created steals on defense and knocked down many contested jumpers off the dribble. Her ability to make straight-on 3-point shots up top with a hand in her face was impressive and she drilled one late in the final game to help ice the game.

[player_tooltip player_id='613942' first='Mariah' last='Cross'] had an outstanding day at the SS16 Shootout for Wayne Memorial on Saturday. She drilled multiple corner 3's, outraced defenders of transition layups, and elevated inside to finish off two in the paint. Mariah used her shifty handles and burst to blow by defenders off the dribble and score at the rim. She pressured ball handlers and created steals. Mariah was one of the most impressive guards at the tournament.

Maddy is going to be a highly recruited guard in this 2028 Michigan class. She showed her ability to compete against top Varsity guards on both ends of the floor for Renaissance on Saturday at the SS16 Shootout. She guarded the opposing teams best player and showed great balance and lateral movement on defense. Maddy drives on the floor for 50/50 balls and made a great one-handed pass on her drive. She buried a wing 3 and is a prospect who we will want to see again at our Freshman Showcase this August.

[player_tooltip player_id='921975' first='Lila' last='Rekeweg'] created an advantage for Midland in the paint on both sides of the ball Saturday at the SS16 Shootout. Lila towers over opponents at 6'1 and she deflected shots and entry passes inside all day. Lila finished off two and used a drop step to finish with a high release off the glass. Lila has the height and soft touch inside to be an excellent next level prospect, as she fills out her frame, Lila will be a highly recruited post.

Ciara is a lengthy guard/wing combo prospect with a ton of potential for Grosse Pointe South. She handled the well under pressure and used her length to deflect passes on defense. Ciara showed the abliity to drive and create shots or spot up on the perimeter.

Mireille is prospect coming up to get excited about for Ann Arbor Pioneer and she made great plays at the SS16 Shootout on Saturday. Mireille utilized inside out dribble attack combo-moves to beat her defender to the basket and score off the glass. She blocked a shot and stole the ball on defense. Mireille attacked off the dribble from the wing, switched hands, and scored a left-handed layup. She dished strong passes and knocked down a 3-pointer from up top off the bounce.
