AAU Season: Nike TOC – EYBL Nationals – USJN: Jer's Notebook

Throughout the entire weekend, I took notes on most teams/programs that I saw competing in Chicago. In this article, I highlight a handful of players who left it all on the floor in their contests, no matter if they were competing at Nike TOC, EYBL Nike Nationals, or USJN. "I covered Portwine recently as being a prospect out of Nebraska that York High School is going to look to a lot this Winter for production so I'm glad to see that she is holding her own here today. This is someone that has good wherewithal on the floor, while being a vocal leader. Offensively, she has shown that she has good fundamentals to beat her defender off of the dribble, with the ability to finish the play in a number of different ways going toward the rim. Defensively, she sticks on her matchups with realitive ease, making it a tough time for them to get open or a clean look on constant possessions. The CCS Bison have some ballers and I'm glad they were able to come to Chicago to show out, Portwine included."     "Johnson excels for a prospect out of the 2029 Class, competing up a grade level in this event. She has great length for her size at 6'0, a strong demeanor while taking the ball to the hoop, and she has better than average coordination. She seems to still be learning her own size in a way but that will all come together in due time. This is someone that could take things to a high level on the high school Varsity floor one day if she were to progress at a steady rate until then."     "It's been nice to see [player_tooltip player_id='311394' first='Alyssa' last='Bartlett'] on a team where they run some good sets on both offense and defense. In these sets this weekend, Bartlett has been able to set up the others around her for success while still looking for her own at the right moments. She is going to be a fun watch this Winter with the Rams but this weekend, was a solid example of how she can fit in as a piece to her team's puzzle compared to having to consistently play hero-ball."     "Fyans has size, knowledge of the game, and understanding of her own ability to a T. She moves really well for 6'5 and is a tough player to guard near the hoop with her back to the basket abilities. She does a fantastic job of keeping the ball high whenever she catches it going toward the rim, so that smaller guards can't get a strip or their hands on it for a jump ball. Defensively, she has stepped out to the outside and held her out against smaller shooter, while also understanding to jump help side whenever she is off of the ball for support. She is someone that other team's MUST worry about while attacking the rim or it's going to be a block party for Fyans."     "You know what you are going to get out of [player_tooltip player_id='510277' first='Izzy' last='Eisbach'] whenever she takes the floor. She is going to launched some respectable three point attempts, she is going to cut off of the ball to the hoop for easy looks, and she is always going to be a willing passer from the perimeter within her team's offense. All while defending at a solid rate. She showed all of this ability every game this weekend, from start to finish. A great way to walk into College Elite Camp and Showcase season in my opinion this Fall."     "I was told about Niekamp prior to this weekend and I think she is going to be the real deal by the end of her high school career. I'm not sure if she will grow anymore but she is crafty enough at the guard position to consistently make something out of nothing for herself or the ones around her. She also has a sniper from deep with a quick trigger and she has solid post moves near the rim to make her attempts at the basket a little bit easier. From my understanding, she already sits with a D2 offer but I'm sure her pile of offers is only going to grow as she gets older. One of the most promising 2028's I scouted this weekend by far."     "The size and skill that [player_tooltip player_id='951657' first='Tenley' last='Levin'] brings to the court is going to shock some people once she hits the high school floor in a couple of years. Levin is competing with her 13U team in the 14U division and standing out. Her natural size, touch on the ball, knowledge of the game for her age, and coordination is impressive.
