Liv Johnson demonstrated to everyone watching the past few weeks as to why she is the #1 rated 2029 in Illinois at this moment in time. Johnson has been doing a little bit of everything at 6’1, which has brought in a lot of interest over the last few days from the collegiate level. If you want to talk about versatile prospects with length, high end skill, and a ton of future potential in this game, look no further than Johnson. She can really do it all right now on both offense and defense against any competition. She also just happen to receive a few P4 offers since this last weekend and I am sure even more are going to come into play here at some point soon.

Johnson has had one of the most dominant freshman seasons we have seen in a while, and the numbers she put up were legit, against tough competition. Heading into her first travel season as a high school prospect, she has not slowed down. During AAU play, she has shown how talented she is off the catch and how quickly she can get it going with only a couple of moves. The shooting ability is there, she can get to the rim with limited dribbles, and what truly sticks out is her footwork from the high post to the mid and low post. This kid has it all, and she is not even scratching the surface of what she can be.

If you watch All Iowa Attack’s 11th grade EYBL team and Liv Johnson you would have no idea that she is only just finishing up her freshman year of high school. On the court she does not look like a freshman physically and when the ball goes up and the action begins, she definitely does not look like a freshman, rather someone who is right where they belong. No hesitancy or submission to the older kids, Johnson went right to work offensively playing with belief and a lot of confidence. She is a three-level scoring machine whose offensive skill set is much more developed than nearly any other kid her age, even in an age of specialization. Liv was effective attacking off the dribble down hill and was successful scoring and distributing the ball to her open teammates. She has a beautiful shot with a very quick release and the good elevation she gets makes her very difficult to defend at 6’1. There is a reason she has multiple offers from Power Four schools across the country and she can’t legally drive yet.

Johnson has completely separated herself from the pack and has entered the national spotlight when it comes to top talent in this 2029 class. She has all the physical attributes of a legit college prospect. The atheltocosim, the agility, and the overall strength she has at this age only point towards high potential. Her skill set is strong, though there’s more room for improvement. She has completely dominated her first season.

Johnson’s trajectory already places her among the top players nationally, which makes her statewide talent stand out on a different level. Even early in her career, it’s clear that her off-court work has been a major priority. She’s sharp in her movements, with the frame to get through contact and the athleticism to get around or finish over defenders. Yes, there is still work that can be done, but there’s nothing but time on her side. As of now.. she is in her own realm.

Johnson has put everyone on notice.. and it’s by simply being consistent. As far as prospect goes.. this kid is in the conversation with the best players in the state, not just in best in her class. She approaches the game the same way.. “Be aggressive, but be smart”. There is a ton of pace and an easy kill attitude to her game, on top of a sharp and adaptable skillset. She can score from all levels, guard 1-4, and has no problem with contact.

Johnson is the future of Carmel, and she has had a strong start to the season. She has complete confidence in her game and has a coaching staff that allows her to be herself but play within a system. She has separated herself from others in her class.. and the offers she has picked up give full stamp to that. A player who is nowhere near a ceiling.

Carmel has produced true D1 talent over the past couple of years, and Johnson’s name will be etched in that as well. The roster is built to play tough, and one thing Johnson will bring besides the toughness is her confidence, which should rub off on the other players. At her age, she’s been able to have strong games against some of the best competition in the state, and the offers that rolled in should be a clear sign that Johnson might be due for a record-breaking freshman season.

Johnson has cemented herself as the number 2029 prospect before the season started, and when you watch film or watch live.. You clearly understand why. She’s purely gifted. Going into the high school season, she’ll be suiting up for a program that isn’t new to having high level dominant players on their roster, which leads me to believe she’ll be able to develop at a quicker rate than most. This Carmel team does have talented pieces up and down the roster, so a strong season individually and as a unit wouldn’t be out of the picture.
