PGH Freshman Showcase: Team 1 Evaluations

The 2028 Michigan class is loaded and we were so excited to see so many of them compete at our Freshman Showcase on August 25th, 2024. Our unique format included 5 hours of games split up into predetermined 3v3, 5v5, and pool play to end the event. Every participant will receive a write-up in our articles, which is something unique and special about Prep Girls Hoops showcases. My coverage focused primarily on teams 1, 2, and 6. Let's take a look at the highlights for each player on Team 1 below!    Wrozek had a great showing at The Freshman Showcase. Her highlight of the day may have been her tough bucket to give her 5x5 team the tie with less than three seconds of the clock. Lucy worked hard on the defensive of the floor and had numerous steals she took coast to coast on the day. She worked hard on the offensive glass and had a few for put-backs. I also liked her floater that she used over taller defenders. We had placed Lucy on our 2028 watchlist and I believe she proved today that she belongs.     Mendenhall showcased a great performance at The Freshman Showcase. She has excellent court vision and consistently finds cutting teammates. In addition, she excels at moving without the ball and scored multiple times through slashing and finishing. She is a pesky on-ball defender and managed to secure some steals during the day. I look forward to watching Jordan the next four years.     Stotz is a player who does a little bit of everything for her team, which was no different at The Freshman Showcase. Stella hit a huge step-back 3 from the wing and had an And-1 finish on the offensive end. Defensively, she never took a play off and finished with numerous steals on the day.     Bossick ran the floor in transition and fought hard on the offensive glass, giving her team scoring opportunities. She is not afraid to take contact attacking the rim and earned many trips to the free-throw line. She has sneaky, good hands on D and poked the ball loose or came away with a steal numerous times. Ava had a solid overall performance at The Freshman Showcase.     Holder had a phenomenal day at The Freshman Showcase and showed why she is on our 2028 Watch List! My notes go on and on about her day…she shot the ball at a high rate, she handled pressure with next-level ball-handling abilities, and she made smart decisions with the ball in her hands. Emersen will be a player to watch for Regina this winter. She was a top performer today.     Coats had a great day at The Freshman Showcase. She showed off her ball-handling skills with a mean crossover at the top of the key to get past a defender. She zipped a pass through defenders on a dime to get her slashing teammate an easy bucket. I really liked the way she can push the ball in transition while staying under control. I look forward to watching more of Madison the next four years.     Hough had a great day at The Freshman Showcase. She was effective at the rim on the defensive end, getting some blocks on the day. She is a player who always seems to be in the right spot on defense and also had some steals. She worked hard on the glass, came away with numerous offensive boards, and got a few put-backs.     Brown had a fantastic performance at The Freshman Showcase. My notes on Leelyn are lengthy. She is a player who could live at the free-throw line because she finishes with authority. She is a phenomenal rim protector and had numerous blocks on the day. Leelyn was a top performer today and will be a nice addition to her Columbia Central team this winter.     Jones had a great day at The Freshman Showcase. She ran the floor hard in transition. She is a pesky on-ball defenders and was causing havoc for her opponents.     Burmeister had an outstanding performance at The Freshman Showcase and was the most surprising player of the day for me. It was my first time watching her play, and she impressed me right from the start. She is strong, athletic, and effectively utilizes these attributes to her advantage. My notes on Jayna are extensive, highlighting her high frequency of driving to the basket and her ability to absorb contact. She also demonstrated proficiency in shooting from all areas of the court, displayed strong defensive efforts, and managed to secure numerous steals. She was a standout performer today and is expected to make a significant contribution to her Shelby team this winter.
