PGH Freshman Showcase: Team 4 Evaluations

The 2028 attendee list had us eager to watch them compete at our Freshman Showcase on August 25th, 2024. Our unique format included 5 hours of games split up into predetermined 3v3, 5v5, and pool play to end the event. Let's talk about media exposure. There have been thousands of views from viewers on X of coverage provided by our scouts during the event, and our written articles will be read by hundreds. Every participant will receive a write-up in our articles, which is something unique and special about Prep Girls Hoops showcases. My coverage focused primarily on teams 3, 4, and 5 and now I would like to share some of the highlights for each player on Team 4 below!    Makayla had the ball on a string for team 4 and was one of the most effective scorers attacking downhill at the Freshman Showcase. She effortlessly dribbled the ball between her legs, used crossovers, jabs, and blew by defenders to score at the rim. Makayla used a high pick-up dribble to score off two feet, drilled a wing 3, and guarded the ball hard late in a game to force what could have been a 5-second call. It will be exciting to see her rise up in the DEPSA basketball program this winter.     Olivia is a lengthy guard/forward player who contributed for team 4 on both ends at our Freshman Showcase. She pressured the ball to force turnovers on defense, raced by defenders to score a layup in transition, Olivia crashed the boards hard to secure a rebound and score a putback then forced a ball handler to dribble the ball out of bounds with solid defensive positioning. She will be a player I look forward to seeing compete for Okemos in the future.     Mia made an impact for team 4 at our Freshman Showcase with her defensive effort. Mia worked to cut off the dribble on defense and avoided getting caught in ball screens. She chased after 50/50 balls and threw a long lead pass in transition to create an open shot for her teammate. Mia will be a guard I want to see more of this winter with Mercy.     Kloe competed hard for team 4 at the Freshman Showcase and made key plays to help her team be successful. She ripped the ball away for a defensive rebound, created space with strong dribbles, and used effective pivot dribbles to shield the ball. Kloe drove hard downhill to score a layup off two feet and pushed the ball with her eyes up in transition. She will be a guard to follow with Spring Lake this winter.     Mariam proved her toughness inside for team 4 at our Freshman Showcase. She blocked a shot inside and outworked her defender for an offensive rebound then caused a foul. Mariam pushed the ball with her dribble in transition, hit the floor for loose balls, and swatted multiple shot attempts away in transition. She competes, makes effort plays, and will be a player to watch with Mercy this winter.     Lauren is an athletic guard who showed a ton of potential with team 4 at our Freshman Showcase. Lauren pushed the ball with quick dribbles in transition and created space with crossovers and spin dribbles using both hands. She will be a guard I look forward to seeing compete more this winter with an extremely talented Muskegon program.     Jayla played aggressive basketball for team 4 at our Freshman Showcase. She crashed the boards hard and battled inside to secure rebounds. Jayla scored multiple layups off two and drove hard off the dribble to get to the free-throw line. She used a quick spin dribble to score with her left at the rim and added another bucket off a baseline out-of-bounds play. Jayla is a high-motor competitor who will develop into a key contributor on a talented Renaissance team this winter.     Lucy was a dominant prospect for team 4 at our Freshman Showcase and proved she may be the top prospect at her position in this class. Lucy stole the ball and scored layups in transition, blocked shots, finished efficiently at the rim, and was unstoppable sealing, scoring, and facing up to beat defenders off the dribble. Lucy showed confidence to shoot shots from the perimeter and if she adds a consistent outside shot, will become a heavily recruited prospect in no time.     Bella competed hard and had an important role for team 4 in the paint at our Freshman Showcase. She cut to open space then faced up to score a left layup off two. Bella scored a passionate and-one layup through a foul, battled for rebounds in the paint, sealed her defender well in the low post, and added an offensive rebound putback.
