I.J.U. Middle School Fall Ball: Point Guards of Tomorrow

The following point guards give a glimpse into the future. True floor generals, these middle school players already have a developed understanding of the game. Whether they are dribbling with the ball on a string, setting their teammates up for success or if need be scoring it on their own.... Proceed with caution! As the young ladies in this article are ready to lead the charge on the floor.    Defenders use their length to try to swallow Hervey in the press but standing at a mighty 5'3, she does a good job of keeping her head up and not allowing size to obstruct her vision. She is familiar with beating the double by finding an open teammate in the middle, or shifting the defense one way before accelerating another way.   In the half court setting, she favors using a jab to make an extremely quick first move to put defenders on her back for a pathway to attack the basket. She makes timely bounce passes to feed the high post. Hervey is the primary ball handler for her squad, but when she plays off the ball she likes to spot up for the three and leaves the defense regretful of leaving her open.     Posses a lightning quick crossover to shake her defender and attack the basket with a consistent floater. Hampton is a pest of a defender, and made immediate in game adjustments to turn the heat up for the team's full court press. On the other end, she conducts traffic to ensure her team had spacing.     Lockett keeps the ball on a short string. She did an immaculate job of changing pace and direction to get to the basket and score. Makes accurate entry passes to the post for her teammate to finish. From the timeline to right over the half court line, she made the ball handler turn FOUR times. White on rice defender!     All gas, no breaks speedy point guard. Once Barlow gets the inside step on her defender, it's game over. Her size is deceptive for the floater she's already polished. It's a shot you can tell she has practiced to perfection. She pushes the ball out in transition and can get down the length of the court in less than 5 dribbles. Already having established the speed paired with ball control, Barlow's growth potential is evident.     Contant was one of the youngest players in the gym, but you would never know. Contant has a smooth midrange shot. She likes to set her team up in the offense, float to the wing and attack the basket once she gets the ball back. She does a nice job reading the passing lanes for steals.
