Team 1 had a nice mix of talented players from both the 2026 and 2027 classes, as many will be added to the WL, as well as Rankings, so let's jump into it

Abney falls into that #sizedontmatter group, and one more time, it doesn't matter when you can play. Her ability to score off the dribble, as well as defend in the 3 on 3 games, showed me she uses her athleticism on both ends. When the bright lights hit, she also showed she could create her shot while being pressured and knock it down from outside, "catch and shoot" included, plus her body control after contact was nice

Wikoff made my Standouts from the 3 on 3 Tip Sheet, see evaluation here, yet she showed me how heady she was during the 5 on 5 games by setting her teammates up for good looks. One play in particular, she was taking the ball out and the defender had their back to her, she through the ball off their back and scored a layup, which JUST DID IT for me, but her "on the ball" pressure was even more intense, she even picked some pockets. Her torrid shooting from outside was also there as she dropped it from deep multiple times. She played the passing lane and dove for loose balls, even knocking the Baller TV camera down and catching it before it hit the ground, while lying down

Stubblefield was another #sizedontmatter guard who brought it in both the 3 on 3 as well as the 5 on 5, yet she grabbed my attention a couple of seasons ago, making Honorable Mention at the PGH Dynasty Classic read more. Her intensity on both ends was among the best as her baseline-to-baseline pressure created turnovers; she tied up players a few times, but her first step to attack and score, nice body control on her finishes, was another plus. Her court vision across the board looked good, as did her ballhandling

Hogue just took target practice to open things up in the 3 on 3, and watching her play "around the world" dropping shots from everywhere had not only me, but the coaches and refs in awe see evaluation here. She is also heady and plays under control, reads the double team nicely, and makes the right decisions on her passes, but as solid as she was in all aspects to start the Showcase off, her defense was even better during the 5 on 5 as she read the screens, as well as beat the offensive player to the spot to make them pick up their dribble

Kuti showed me a variety of intangibles she brings to the table at the guard spot, and one of them is being able to play multiple positions. She understands positioning, which helped her outrebound taller players, but she's a "long and athletic" guard; remember that, too, is the base, and she has UPS to go get the ball off the rim as well as score around the basket. She scored off the dribble, she dropped the pull-up jumper, she saw the floor, and her defensive pressure was strong

Walker is another "log and athletic" guard who understands something simple, yet effective, and that's how to get hers "in the flow". She also can score in droves, that's special, yet seeing her dropping the jumper with a hand in her face was nice, so was her "catching and shooting" while being tightly guarded. Guess why I'm dropping the #THROWBACK hashtag on her? She follows her shot, which for some reason has become a lost art, but her first step, coupled with nice body control on her finishes, was nice, so was her rebounding and defense

Winn just goes hard on both ends, and when you find players who "never take a play off" to the novice with a mic or not comprehending breaking things down, you won't get it, but she gave me everything before the 5 on 5 games even started, see evaluation here Her desire to get better, as well as work on things she feels she needs also gets the #THROWBACK dropped so as good as she was in the 3 on 3, she took no prisoners as she dominated on both ends, going after everything off the rim, as well as scoring aroundthe basket as well as in transition but her seeing the floor in the open court was special

Douglas is one of the top players in Louisiana, and she was also one of the top players at the Showcase and showed it in the first few plays of the day see evaluation here. One more time, "long and athletic" and a couple of inches above "the magic number" and seeing her not only rebound on both ends, but understand how to get the break going with the outlet, or just starting it herself by handling the ball after grabbing it off the rim, spoke volumes. Her court vision looked good, she scored around the basket, dropped the jumper, and scored off the dribble, plus her blocking shots and defending were solid as well

Gaston is a couple of inches shy of "the magic number" but that doesn't matter because she plays as if she's above it, and DESIRE is one of those things I love seeing because you can't teach it, as she went AFTA everything off the rim. She does a good job of using her frame on both ends. Her "hands and footwork" to score looked good, but she also showed she can be powerful inside the paint on her finishes after contact. She also went "coast to coast" to score, yet her court vision was another plus. She also showed she could defend both inside and outside the paint
