PGH Freshman Showcase : Team 8 Evaluations

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>As the 65+ talented freshman were broken into teams to play a pair of 5-on-5 games, I was lucky enough to get to cover the uber-talented "Team 8". With [player_tooltip player_id='913552' first='Kalani' last='Kindred'] and [player_tooltip player_id='992449' first='Chloe' last='Woodson'] each making our Top 15 Players lists, and several others being mentioned in the discussions, this team had a little bit of everything. You always hear of talented athletic freshmen being "green", but Kalani is already putting her impressive skillset to use like a veteran. Made a euro-step layup in one of the games that was one of the most impressive offensive possessions I saw, and a couple of the best blocked shots I saw all summer. This team was full of talented post players, and I'm sure they were happy to play with her. Not only in the half court, but also looking ahead in the open floor. Getting her a good matchup in a screen and roll is going to lead to easy buckets this season. Great on ball defender. Even in a showcase setting that wasn't being tightly called, got to the free-throw line more than any player I saw at camp. Should be getting an extra 6-8 points a night from the stripe. Shoots great off the catch. When you have a three-level scorer like that, it always has the other team back pedaling. Runs outlets well on fast breaks. Has ability to get a defensive rebound and just take it. Had a sequence in one game where she took it to her right shoulder from the mid-post and got a bucket, then the next time she got the ball she caught her defender anticipating and took it immediately to her inside left shoulder for a bucket. Saw her hit a three from the top of the key, the corner, and the left wing in her two games, so defenders are going to have to know where she is at all times. Keeps her head on a swivel on defense. Smart defender, defended ball screens tremendously well. Nice follow up shots on offensive rebounds, and has a good midrange game. Definitely someone I want to see more of.
