PGH IA Expo: Jeremy's Notebook

Throughout the event on Saturday, I had the opportunity to sit down and take notes on each participate that was in attendance. This form of notes is just a quicker version of a detailed summary, explaining what is happening on the floor in front of me at that given time. "Multiple times I have walked by today and had to stop to see a beautiful shot out of [player_tooltip player_id='1044923' first='Abby' last='Wedemeier']. This is someone that will compete with the Kennedy Cougars this Winter, that I did not know about until this event and she has really shown out as a top prospect in the building. She has a well-rounded game all together, she makes smart moves down the court, and she doesn't slack on either side of the ball. The Cougars are stacked with promising underclassmen coming in this Winter and Wedemeier is in that conversation."     "[player_tooltip player_id='1044934' first='Cora' last='Sauer'] led her high school team last season with 12.5 PPG on just over 36% shooting. After seeing what Sauer can do against some tough competitors at this Showcase and now I'm expecting an even better season ahead of her this upcoming Winter. Sauer is going to get the majority of the work load on offense for her Bulldog team, while being tasked to defend the opposing teams best offensive weapon at the guard position and I think she could hold her own on both ends. She demonstrates that she is a born leader on the hardwood, every time she plays and that should continue moving forward."     "Morris plays between the 2, 3, and 4 positions when she is out on the court and that's because she is still progressing as an overall prospect. Morris works hard to be someone that everyone can look up to. She competes at a high level with a positivity and that's just the tip of the iceberg. At Marian, watch out for Morris the next few years. She could turn into something special right in front of our eyes."     "Love what I am seeing out of [player_tooltip player_id='1044960' first='Rylee' last='Boggess'] of Vinton-Shellsburg High School during today's skill session and even during 5v5 competitive play. Vinton-Shellsburg will have some killers returning this Winter at the Varsity level but they also need to prepare for their future and I think Boggess is going to be someone they look to. She is coordinated with respectable size at 5'7-5'8 and she is definitely a positive influence out on the court, communication-wise and skill-wise. As long as she stays locked in, I'm sure she will be someone we hear more about these next few months."     "At DC, seeing the floor in any capacity before you are an upperclassmen means that you can play. Straight up. That's the reality of the situation. This program only compete with 5-7 kids per Varsity contest so minutes are "slim pickings", if you will. Someone that I expect to see the floor by the time she gets to her Sophomore/Junior season could be [player_tooltip player_id='1044939' first='Gwen' last='Hulten']. Hulten stands at 5'9, she will only be a Freshman this Winter and she understands her role. She is definitely someone that thrives off of the ball and that's okay. Within her high school program's system, they will still be able to get her open looks in moderation, as long as she continues to get better as she gets older. At this event she had her moments and that's all you can really ask for."     "I can see [player_tooltip player_id='1044954' first='Maya' last='Robbins-Sanchez'] as being a prospect that could flourish over the next couple of years on the court with the correct guidance at the high school level. In a program like IC - Liberty's, they have a solid track record and they seemingly get kids to the collegiate level, so it's not the easiest to standout but out of the 2028 Class that they have, Robbins-Sanchez should do a good job of making her presence felt over the next four years. She will be able play a Swiss-army knife type role to get into the line up and from there, she can show her ability to make things happen on both ends. That might not bean immediate thing but that's definitely one way I could see this all playing out."     "Another noteworthy individual is [player_tooltip player_id='1044929' first='Audrey' last='Castillo'], who will also be competing at Marion High School over the next four years of high school ball. Castillo comes in at 5'3, she has quick movement down the floor and she has active hands that help her get tips/deflections on the defensive side of the ball. As I mentioned above, the Marion Wolves are doing some positive things within their program so I'm sure Castillo will be a great addition to that system."     "You can tell that Sam Reis wanted to shoot the basketball from deep whenever she has an open opportunity and she is pretty accurate while doing so. She will have to expand her game if she wants to really kill it out on the hardwood but she does show promise in a few different categories of the game thus far. She has a picture perfect shooting stroke, she can put the ball on the floor a little bit, she is a sound passer, and she doesn't make too many mistakes. Overall, she is still someone to keep an eye on moving into her Sophomore season with the Mustangs."
