Orange Park Classic Standouts - Day 1

The season is less than one week away and preseason games. All around the states are in full force. In this article, we look at some of the top performances from night one of the Annual Orange Park Classic tournament.    [player_tooltip player_id='514545' first='Mariah' last='Young']  continue to impress with her leadership and ability to score .  Young showed over the summer that she could knock the three down with consistency and continue to be a threat driving the ball to the rim.  On opening night of the Orange Park Classic, Young poured in 17 points.     She  has the ability to play both guard positions.   Young enters the season as the captain of a talented young team and  she is already showing the maturity it takes to lead- on and off the court.      [player_tooltip player_id='748572' first='Jayde' last='Brant'] was also a standout on night one of the Orange Park Preseason Classic. The young guard has the ability to drive and score. Bryant also has playmaking ability that really stands out. Her quickness causes double teams which leaves teammates open for the shot. Brant has shown the ability to find the open teammate after breaking the defense down. Brant is also a tough on the ball defender. She plays the passing lanes and can take it back the other way for the score. Her ability to guard the opposition's top ball handler will keep her on the floor, and she will be in position to impact the game from multiple areas on the floor.       [player_tooltip player_id='974196' first='Trinity' last='Dinkins'] continue to show maturity in her game. The Freshman  has the ability  to score in multiple ways and can affect the outcome of the game in various ways.  She can shoot the three,  get to the rim, and can facilitate the rock,  using her great court awareness and  court vision. Dinkins has a high basketball IQ and to see her instincts and anticipation at this young stage is impressive.    .    [player_tooltip player_id='708143' first='Kendall' last='Proffitt'] continues to impress from the perimeter knocking down 6 threes on night one of the Orange Park Classic.   Proffitt connected on 100 threes last season and is poised to do the same this season.  She is also handling the ball more and has shown that she can run the point when needed.  Proffitt is continuing to expand her game on the defensive side of the court.     [player_tooltip player_id='819896' first='Ashantii' last='Williams']  stood out on night one of the Orange Park Classic,  showing a lot of athleticism on  the boards and making plays on the defensive end of the court.  Williams has good length and moves well on the floor.  She has the ability to impact the game in a lot of different ways.      [player_tooltip player_id='1012650' first='Sophia' last='Mejias'] played well on night one of the preseason games.  Mejias showed great skill and leadership on the floor.  She handles the ball well,  passes the ball well, and can knock down the three and short range jumper. Mejias did a good job of running the point, controlling the pace, and getting her team in their proper offensive sets.       [player_tooltip player_id='768731' first='Roslyn' last='Weston'] was a standout on night one of the Orange Park Classic.  Weston also had an impressive summer and has really worked hard to improve her game.  She runs the floor well,  and makes a lot of athletic plays in the transition game and defensive side of the ball.   Her three point shooting has really improved and she is a threat to knock it down every time it leaves her hand     Angel McLellan was a standout on night one and definitely has the tools to do so night in and out. McClellan has the speed, court vision, and calm temperament on the floor. She can also put the ball in the basket, especially in transition and getting downhill on the offensive end. McClellan can shoot the jumper, especially in the midrange area. She is a selfless player who is equally as enthused when a teammate scores a basket from one of her dime passes. McLellan's game goes to an even higher level on the defensive end. She plays smothering on the ball defense and she turns steals into points and assists. She is the catalyst for St Augustine and her performance on night one is a premonition of what's to come this season.
