The landscape of the 2A and 1A Division I classifications has changed substantially for the 2025 season. KSHSAA's 2024-2025 Classifications and Enrollments shows 7 schools have moved up to 2A. Seven schools have dropped to 1A D I for 2025. The seven that slid down are Lincoln, West Elk, Oxford, Meade, Ellis, The Independent School and Sedan. Mining KSHSAA's 2024-2025 Volleyball season enrollment breakdowns it appears Hodgeman County and Minneola moved to 1A D II. Blue Valley-Randolph and Greeley County moved into 1A D I. Official basketball 1A breakdowns have yet to be released so my estimates could be off. Given the changes I described, here is a positional look at my top five pre-season, all-state picks.

One loss St. John reached the 1A D I state tournament last season. After being washed out by Frankfort by by nearly 20 points Fort Hays State University commit Reed is primed to lead her team deeper into the tournament this season. Easily the best center in the class the Central Prairie League first teamer was underappreciated by state honors in 2024. She will rise higher than honorable mention honors given by KSHSAACovered and Sports In Kansas.

There are several talented shooting guards in the class but Deters has played at a high level since stepping on the floor as a freshman. The Benedictine College commit is a returning first team 1A D I selection from KBCA (2x), KSHSAACovered, Sports In Kansas and Twin Valley League (2x). two-time Twin Valley League first team. This is her last shot at a state title. The Panthers took third last year and finished runner-up in 2022. She has poured in more than 1,300 points in her career.

The extremely deep and talented Redskins rolled though the regular season and took an undefeated record into the 1A state title game in 2024. After winning a hard fought semi-final over [player_tooltip player_id='349457' first='Oen' last='Deters']'s Centralia squad Little River was upset by Frankfort for all the marbles. Despite losing all-state point guard Alaina Eck (Barton County Community College) Feldman and company return an extremely talented roster that could run the table again. After being at the far end of the bench, and several inches shorter than she is now, during her freshman season Feldman's game grew even more than her height. She piled up most of her 442 points last season and, unfortunately for her opponents, she's an even stronger player heading into her junior season. Easily the top small forward in the class, she holds three MIAA D II offers already. A returning Wheat State League first teamer she picked up KSHSAACovered second, KBCA third and Sports In Kansas honorable mention selections.

The Eagles failed to overcome eventual state champion Frankfort in a close sub-state final last season. Heading into her junior year Wurtz has already piled up 715 points while shooting 37% from three point land, 75% from the line and holding a 1 assists-to-turnover ratio. The class is loaded with talented point guards so being my top pick is saying something. The Twin Valley League is arguably the toughest 1A league in the state and she is a returning two-time first team selection. She also earned Sports In Kansas 1A D I first team as well as KBCA and KSHSAACovered second team honors. While she has not received offers yet, she will as more schools focus on the 2026s.

Corter, undersized at the power forward position, is a dominate force at the position. The Mustangs return to 1A D I after a season 2A and the tick up did not slow her down. Diversely skilled with handles and three point range, Corter piled up 17.8 points and 8.7 rebounds last season. and enters her senior season having scored 885 points. The two-time South Central Border League first team honoree received Sports In Kansas second as well as KBCA and KSHSAACovered third team selections. Corter holds an offer from McPherson College.
