Saints Standouts in Preseason Scrimmage

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Though I just did a preseason preview of Cedar Rapids Xavier, I couldn't resist watching such a good quality matchup between the Saints and Mount Vernon on Saturday. The Saints didn't disappoint, showing off their experience and shooting prowess as they came out of Mount Vernon with a preseason win. She looked settled and ready for the moment on Saturday and made good decisions throughout the scrimmage. She scored off the cut, hit a deep two on a relocation against the zone, and was diving all over the floor (leading to three steals). Building off of the experienced gained her freshman year, Cayleigh looked poised, made good decisions, and made a number of hustle plays for the Saints. I especially loved her fighting against post players for a handful of offensive rebounds. Stepping in the paint and guarding the post position, Fandel used her length and athleticism to step in passing lanes, leading to four steals on the night. She also slowed off a smooth, poised handle while slashing through the zone for lay-ins. Her nonstop motor was on display, finishing the night with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals (including 4/6 from three). Madden looked confident stepping into jumpers and caused multiple turnovers with her feisty help side defense. I really liked how much she affected the pace of the game - she was constantly looking to pass the ball up the floor and even split a pair of Mustangs for a coast to coast transition layup.
