National Hoopfeast Showcase Skilled Post Players

The 2nd Annual Hoopfeast Showcase took place in Wesley Chapel, FL, at the 8-court Wiregrass Sports Complex and was packed with talent, featuring some exciting early-season matchups. One notable highlight was the impressive number of skilled post players who showcased their ability to handle and score the ball. Here are a few standouts from the event.      [player_tooltip player_id='428046' first='Izellah' last='Kendrick'] showcased her impressive skills in a matchup against another talented post player, Senaia, making for an exciting back-and-forth battle. Kendrick's ability to execute a variety of post moves with her back to the basket was remarkable, including a "dream shake" that drew audible reactions from the crowd.   She also demonstrated her versatility by grabbing rebounds and pushing the ball in transition, finding her open teammates with precision. Additionally, Kendrick displayed the ability to take her matchup off the dribble from outside the paint, highlighting her well-rounded offensive game. Kendrick appears poised for a standout senior season at Bloomingdale, making it her best yet.     [player_tooltip player_id='514589' first='Senaia' last='Asanya'] showcased excellent footwork and ball-handling skills, along with the ability to use jabs effectively from the high post to create space and get to her spots. She displayed a quick first step and a smooth pull-up jumper in the mid-range, making her a difficult matchup for opponents. Her scoring versatility—whether from the post, high post, or beyond the three-point line—further highlights her all-around offensive skill set.   Defensively, Senaia demonstrated her ability to guard both post players and wing players, showcasing her adaptability on that end of the floor. Currently averaging 16.0 PPG for Wekiva, Senaia is expected to play a pivotal role for the team, especially as they navigate one of the toughest schedules in the state.       [player_tooltip player_id='1183630' first='Charity' last='Davis'] made an impressive debut after missing her freshman season due to injury, proving she's ready to make up for lost time. Davis showcased her defensive prowess by consistently being in the right spot at the right time, playing straight up without fouling, and quickly rotating to help-side defense. Her ability to track rebounds, fight for position, and secure the ball at its highest point had a significant impact on the game.   Offensively, Davis added pressure on opponents by consistently knocking down her free throws. Her outstanding conditioning was evident as she played most of the game without showing signs of fatigue, making her a reliable presence on the floor for her coach.   With her well-rounded game and tenacity, Davis is a strong candidate for breakout player of the year. Expect to see her making a major impact throughout the season.     [player_tooltip player_id='941219' first='Cali' last='Midyett'] may be a freshman, but she plays well beyond her age. Cali is a stretch forward with a smooth shooting stroke and excellent form. As I approached her court, she was sinking a contested corner three, and it was clear everyone knew it was going in. Her instincts stood out, especially when she grabbed rebounds and immediately looked up the floor to push the ball quickly—an impressive skill that many players her age lack.   Cali is a rising star to watch, as she has the potential to improve even further. Her versatility allows her to fit seamlessly into any system while making a significant impact. Keep her on your radar!     [player_tooltip player_id='967982' first='Layla' last='Adams'] came down from Georgia with her team, Union Grove, and proved she's not only one of the best in Georgia but also one of the top players in the nation. At 6'3", Adams moves effortlessly down the floor and plays aggressively, attacking for rebounds and securing them at the highest point without bringing the ball down, making it difficult for defenders to stop her from scoring.   She displayed an excellent understanding of post moves, utilizing a quick drop step and her length to shoot over defenders. Adams also used step-throughs effectively, ensuring that minor contact didn't prevent her from finishing strong. Additionally, she showcased her court vision by finding open teammates when double-teamed, keeping the ball high to see over the defense. She even delivered a couple of impressive bounce passes, passing her teammates open in stride.   On the defensive end, Adams demonstrated the importance of playing straight up, frequently altering opponents' shots even when she couldn't block them outright. With a few Division I offers already, [player_tooltip player_id='967982' first='Layla' last='Adams'] is poised to attract many more by her junior season as she gains further exposure.
