Superior Sophomores

We have been covering high school athletes across the state for the entire high school season. I love watching these young athletes take on leadership roles with their teams, and it's really impressive when athletes can do that even as a younger member of the team. I want to spotlight some of the top 2027s that are and have been leaders for their teams.    [player_tooltip player_id='772526' first='Jordan' last='Speller'] is an exceptional athlete. She has a special finesse with the ball that allows her a chance to get to the rim, and she makes nice adjustments to be able to finish the shot even with hands in her face. Her ability to choose the right move to lose her defender is definitely fun to watch. She can certainly knock down her shot from deep, and she uses her IQ to help her anticipate what her opponents will do to grab steals on defense.     [player_tooltip player_id='691830' first='Lenise' last='Joseph'] certainly draws a lot of attention on the court each time she plays. She does a nice job on the block sealing off her defender to get the pass and score some points. She is very tough to battle for rebounds on both ends, and she knows exactly where to go with the ball when she grabs defensive rebounds to get the tempo increased. She's even been expanding the floor this year knocking down shots from around the perimeter.     [player_tooltip player_id='772492' first='Madison' last='Drayton'] was a big piece of Cannon's state championship victory last year, and she's continuing that strong performance this season hoping to make it back to the big game. She is a tough defender being able to pick the pocket of her opponents, and she uses these steals to get fast break points going the other direction. She's aggressive with the ball on offense getting to the rim or pulling up quickly for jumpers as she knows how to read what the defenders are giving her.     [player_tooltip player_id='635063' first='Jaidiah' last='Blake'] helped her team reach the state championship game last season as a freshman, and she is certainly continuing that run this year. She's very versatile on the court being able to guard a range of players whether she is protecting the basket from the block or guarding the perimeter. The same versatility translates to offense as you can see her using nice footwork with her moves to score her points in the paint, and she can definitely knock down her shot for three.     [player_tooltip player_id='380651' first='Ginny' last='Anne Dumont'] has certainly found a good groove as a leader for her Providence Day team. She controls the flow of the game bringing the ball up to set up a half court set, or she makes the perfect pass u the court hitting her teammate in stride as they make the fast break bucket. She has great size that's hard to defend around the perimeter as she elevates over her defender to make her shot.
