Last fall, the unveiling of the Freshmen 50 introduced the first ranking of top prospects in Minnesota's Class of 2028. Last week we expanded the list for the first time, adding 25 more players to the fold, and we told you about the nine players who had raised their stock over the course of the high school season. Earlier on Monday we introduced the eight new forwards. Now we take a closer look at some of the fresh-faced guards. Here's a detailed take on a half dozen of those backcourt players and links to the rest of the newcomers.

If you aren't familiar with how the Prep Girls Hoops rankings process works, let us remind you that our rankings are based on an athlete's potential as a college player, NOT on their current performance in high school. While some of the newcomers are polished players, others are still quite raw. They've made the list, however, because we believe they have the potential to be really good by the time they graduate in 2028. Visit the How We Rank page to learn more about how we decide who goes where on the list.

We've watched Danika numerous times this winter, both live and online, and the progression from start to finish has been gratifying to see. It's not easy being the little sister of a college bound standout like junior [player_tooltip player_id='458305' first='Audrey' last='Shindelar'], who has committed to South Dakota State, but Danika has now emerged from the shadows and made it clear she, too, can play a little. Shindelar is third in scoring on the Tigers, and on many nights has been their best player. Danika can create, she can defend, and she can fire the three-ball like nobody's business. Now she's in the top 50.

It didn't take long for Callie to establish that she was ready to shine, both as a high school player excelling at the varsity level and as a next-level collegiate prospect with plenty of upside. She's not very big, of course, but with a well-oiled box of tools forged through training and repetition, Lynch plays the game at a high level. She's explosive, has quick hands and feet, and is fast in the open court. Her handles under pressure are exceptional and she can get to the rim consistently against bigger, stronger players. Coaches need to take a peek this summer at what Callie can do. It's a lot.

We didn't know much about Allie when she showed up last fall at the Freshman Showcase, but she left a positive impression. This winter Lima broke through at the varsity level in a big way. Now 5'10, with a long, lean frame, Allie demonstrated that she is skilled, aggressive, and can bomb it from beyond the arc when the look is available. She's a quality ball handler who can withstand pressure, too. Lima averaged 12 ppg for Holy Angels this winter as a freshman, 2nd best on the team, and had a 31-point game late in the season. Consider that a glimpse into what is to come.

Regan has been making headlines regularly since Christmas up at The Hive in Perham thanks to a series of aerial assaults that set the standard for three-point shooting this season. The 5'5 combo guard is a practice machine, a dedicated workhorse who shoots and shoots and shoots some more. The grind is paying off. Hemberger averaged a dozen points per game as a freshman while shooting north of 45% from three. She's not the biggest or the fastest or the strongest prospect in the Class of 2028, but she definitely knows how to leave her fingerprints on the outcome.

Josie is another small guard who makes a big impact. She entered the season having already played plenty of varsity basketball on a rebuilding Becker squad. This year her role increased and her game matured. She finished third in scoring (6.4 ppg) along with 3.6 rebounds and 3.1 assists, which led the team. Reckelberg is a pass-first guard who loves to push pace and move the ball. She never seems to over-handle it and has a good feel for where the ball needs to go and when. Josie is unlikely to be a big star; she's very likely to be a fine college basketball player.

NEW KID ON THE BLOCK

#37 [player_tooltip player_id='804247' first='Brielle' last='Gray'] – guard, East Ridge

Shortly before we released the Freshman 50 in the fall, Brielle crossed the river from Wisconsin to take up residence in Minnesota where she enrolled at East Ridge High School in Woodbury. Brielle's reputation preceded her. Already an established player at home, we hadn't seen enough to put her in the rankings until we had a much bigger sample size to work with. Now, with her first season in Minnesota having concluded, we would describe Gray's campaign as one of acclimation.

There's no doubt it has been an adjustment – to the pace of play, the complexities of the defensive schemes, the size and experience of the opponents. Having said that, it is obvious that Brielle is a talented guard with speed, quickness and athleticism. She is a player with great raw material and a ton of upside, and it's only a matter of time before she evolves into a great collegiate prospect. She enters the Minnesota rankings now in the top 40 which is a great place to start. We have a feeling she'll be climbing up the ladder over the next couple of years.

THE REST OF THE NEW GUARDS

#56 [player_tooltip player_id='1110732' first='Reese' last='Malmgren'] – 5'9 guard, St. James

#58 [player_tooltip player_id='835982' first='Lilly' last='Henriksen'] – 5'7 guard, BOLD

#59 [player_tooltip player_id='881084' first='Macy' last='Castle'] – 5'7 guard, Brainerd

#63 [player_tooltip player_id='1047086' first='Mckenna' last='Hulke'] – 5'7 guard, New Ulm

#64 [player_tooltip player_id='983021' first='Lylah' last='Findley'] – 5'8 guard, Albany

#68 [player_tooltip player_id='901096' first='Katherine' last='Whited'] – 5'5 guard, St. Louis Park

#69 [player_tooltip player_id='1177339' first='Neveah' last='Martin'] – 5'6 guard, Rosemount

#70 [player_tooltip player_id='992429' first='Tessa' last='Goodman'] – 5'2 guard, Eastview

#71 [player_tooltip player_id='1094406' first='Kayli' last='Bigalke'] – 5'6 guard, St. Michael-Albertville

#72 [player_tooltip player_id='1209367' first='Ailee' last='Peper'] –5'9 guard, Stillwater

#74 [player_tooltip player_id='867616' first='Nora' last='Wake'] – 5'11 guard, Hill City-Northland

Click here to access the entire Class of 2028 rankings.
