Monday kicked off the MHSAA Regional Semifinal round, as District champions faced off, hoping for a win and an opportunity to secure a regional trophy on Wednesday. Lakes Valley Conference champs South Lyon (20-2) squared off against KLAA West challenger Hartland (19-5) in what was expected to be a very competitive matchup. The game lived up to those expectations as neither team yielded an inch on the defensive end. South Lyon started hot with Izzy Nooe draining two triples and [player_tooltip player_id='1215614' first='Rylee' last='Miller'] sinking another from the corner. They chased down offensive rebounds and took a 9-4 lead, but triples by Ava McKaig and [player_tooltip player_id='1004394' first='Kayla' last='Matties'] gave Hartland a 10-9 lead after one. Hartland outscored the Lions again in the second to take a 19-13 advantage into the half.

[player_tooltip player_id='716692' first='Kennedy' last='Tucker'] and [player_tooltip player_id='981981' first='Brinley' last='Neuer'] were clutch at the free-throw line for the Eagles in the second half. South Lyon made a valiant comeback attempt, but Hartland prevailed 45-39. Here are a few players from both teams who stood out.

Brin delivered a fantastic All-Conference freshman season for the Eagles and she stepped up in their Regional semifinal against South Lyon. She dropped in two smooth floaters in the paint, her second gave Hartland momentum to end the second quarter. Brinley sank a smooth triple and converted seven crucial free throws to help Hartland secure a 45-39 win. She led Hartland with 14 points.

Kennedy earned All-Conference honors for Hartland this season and turned in a huge 12 point, 11 rebound double-double against Brighton in their District Semifinal win. Kennedy established her presence inside, giving the Eagles an advantage during their Regional Semifinal victory vs. South Lyon. She scored two layups with good footwork in the paint and converted four free throws from the charity stripe, pouring in eight points for Hartland.

Ava has the handles and downhill burst to score layups and she shoots with excellent balance off the dribble. Ava gave the Eagles a boost by drilling two triples and adding a smooth mid-range jumper off the dribble. She poured in eight points for Hartland and would be a solid addition to a college program.

Izzy led the Lions to a District championship with 19 points against the Mustangs and she kept South Lyon close throughout the Regional Semifinal vs. Hartland. Izzy buried a deep straightaway three off the dribble and added another triple from the wing. She looked like a track athlete doing a long jump when she leaped ahead of a defender to score using a pro hop. Izzy collapsed the defense with her dribble and dished long skip passes to open teammates for assists. Izzy swiped the ball away on defense and led the Lions with 16 points; I'm excited to see her compete with Bethel next season.

Rylee made a great impression during South Lyon's Regional Semifinal game vs. Hartland. Her length and athleticism are features of a prototypical wing. Rylee boosted the Lions with her outside shooting, burying three triples. She swatted shots in the paint with authority and swiped the ball away to score a transition layup. Rylee scored 13 points and looks like a wing with next level potential.
