Standout Guards at the Demetrius Richardson Showcase

There were tons of talented guards in the building, and in this article, we will hi-light a few of the guards who had top performances. Some guards shot the ball well. Other players were outstanding with the handles and ball IQ. Finally, some guards excelled on the defensive end.    [player_tooltip player_id='439457' first='Nevaeh' last='Lee'] was one of the most exciting players at the Showcase. The young guard can handle, shoot the ball from outside, and create problems in the transition game with speed and more speed. Lee was also impressive with her ability to get down-hill and maneuver her way to the basket. Her ability to convert the difficult shots under pressure is what got the attention of everyone. Defensively, Lee played aggressive defense and had the ability to get deflections and also get interceptions in the passing lanes. Lee looked elite on the floor and she will be a "must-see" in the upcoming travel season.     Joelys Rodriguez was very impressive on the floor and what really stood out about Rodriguez was her natural basketball abilities and her basketball IQ. Rodriguez showcased good court vision and showed great anticipation. Her ability to adjust on the fly was the most impressive part of her game. She was nice in transition, where she got the rim on one play and threw a dime on another play. More about her passing ability: she reads the floor and throws the pass on time and places it so the receiver can make a play with the ball. The young Sophomore was also good on the defensive end. She pressed up on the ball handler and had quick feet to prevent the offensive player from blowing by. Rodriguez looked polished and will be a fun player to watch this travel season.     [player_tooltip player_id='515051' first='Ekklesia' last='Anderson'] was really a standout at the showcase. Her ability in the open court was special. Anderson picks them up and puts them down with great speed and athleticism. The guard has a good understanding of angles and leverage and watching her get to the rim was a treat. Anderson used a quick burst to explode to the rim or used the hesitation move to freeze the defender. She had some of the best finishes at the showcase and was getting to the rim against defenders who were much taller.     [player_tooltip player_id='468627' first='Jasleen' last='Green'] came in and did her thing at the showcase. Her ball handling and offensive game is on an elite level. She can shoot the three, get to the midrange area, and get into the paint when she wants to. Green's ability to put the defender in a bind causes oohs and aahs from everyone in the gym, excluding the opponent. Green's ability to create her shots off the dribble really stood out. Moreover, her ability to pull up off the dribble is a bread and butter move. Then she can present the threat of pulling up, hit the defender with a hesitation move, and get all the way to the rim. Green knows how to finish once she gets to the rim. She has physicality to her game and uses physical play to shake her defender and get to the free throw line. There wasn't too many players on Green's level in the building. Green will be exciting to watch and it will be exciting to see her this travel season as the catalyst on the floor.     [player_tooltip player_id='400785' first='Audrey' last='Beyer'] was out there knocking down "four point" distance shots, and doing so with ease. she was definitely one of the standouts. Beyer shot the deep ball well and also ran the floor well in transition. Beyer also showed her ability to put the pressure on the defense and get to the rim. Beyer is one of the most craftiest players in her class. She knows how to score in bunches, including getting to the free throw line.    Other Standout Guards in the Building   [player_tooltip player_id='248679' first='Zoe' last='Corjay'] played well and did a good job of shooting the ball in the showcase, especially from the three ball area. Corjay followed up her performance on the court with. victory in the three point contest. Corjay can get to the rim and then also pull-up in the three point zone.   [player_tooltip player_id='400816' first='Leila' last='Bryant'] caught our attention with her performance on the court. Bryant handled the ball well and was impressive getting out on the break and passing the ball and pulling up in transition. Still in 8th grade, Bryant will once again play up on the older teams. She was impressive as a 7th grader in travel ball and will be a major story this upcoming travel season as an 8th grader.   [player_tooltip player_id='874197' first='Kareena' last='Ortiz'] was out there making some plays on the court. Ortiz has the ability to score at multiple levels. Ortiz did a good job of shooting, and had a few nice three point shots during showcase.
